Sustainability: IceStone is proud to be the first and only durable surface in the world to receive McDonough Braungart
Design Chemistry (MBDC)’s coveted Cradle to Cradle™ certification. Cradle to Cradle™ assesses products on a number
of criteria, such as the use of safe and healthy materials, design for material reuse and recycling, efficient use of energy
and water throughout production, and instituting strategies for social responsibility. At IceStone we manufacture our
products with 100% recycled glass in a cement matrix, diverting hundreds of tons of glass from landfills each year. We
operate out of a renovated, day-lit factory in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, creating U.S. jobs for workers in an eco-friendly,
safe and respectful environment.

Beauty: IceStone products come in a variety of shades, ranging from soft, earth-toned neutrals to rich, saturated colors.
Our color palette is versatile, simulating the natural landscape or harmonizing with your own home or office décor. Our
surfaces come with a high polish but can be honed or sandblasted to achieve your desired look and feel. And unlike
petrochemical based materials, IceStone surfaces do not fade with UV exposure.

LEED
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) Green Building Rating System in order to transform the built environment to sustainability by providing the building
industry with consistent, credible standards for what constitutes a green building. There are different types of LEED rating
systems, and all are continuously refined. You can check the latest versions at the USGBC website – www.usgbc.org.

Using IceStone durable surfaces has helped many projects to obtain their LEED credits. Below, you will find a chart of
information relating to how IceStone can help to obtain credits in the LEED Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) version 2.0
rating system. Below that, you will find a condensed listing of the other LEED certification systems and the corresponding
credits that IceStone can help your project to obtain.

LEED & IceStone Durable Surfaces
More Ways that IceStone Supports Green Building and a Healthy World:
  •   Green Manufacturing and Office Facilities: IceStone has adopted goals for energy conservation, carbon
       emissions, water use, and waste management. IceStone will become carbon-neutral, purchase renewable energy
       credits, and will continue to reduce energy use per square foot of product produced. IceStone’s Water
       Management Principles are based on the Hannover Principles on Design for Sustainability and the Water
       Principles of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Waste from our facility is tracked and
       measured against reduction goals. Over 80% of our waste is recycled, recovered or composted. IceStone also
       conducts environmental education programs for employees.
  •   Social Responsibility: IceStone’s mission statement addresses corporate ethics and social responsibility (available
       on www.icestone.biz). IceStone will complete a social audit with third-party verification. IceStone provides living-
       wages, health benefits, education programs and life-skill training to employees, including free English as a Second
       Language classes. IceStone’s donation program provides free or discounted material to projects that share similar
       social and environmental goals, with Habitat for Humanity receiving annual donations. We also partner with
       community, nonprofit, academic, industrial assistance and local social services groups to promote green-collar job
       creation, sustainable business practices, and the development of the green building industry.
  •   Life Cycle: IceStone durable surfaces are defined as a Technical Nutrient by MBDC’s Cradle to Cradle™
       certification due to human and ecological health characterization as well as reutilization potential. IceStone
       surfaces are suitable for many re-uses in a long life cycle. Fabricators will accept used IceStone surfaces and may
       cut a new piece. IceStone LLC accepts surfaces that are packaged and shipped back at the owner’s expense to
       IceStone LLC in Brooklyn, NY. IceStone surfaces are 100% recyclable via mechanical grinding and reforming.
       IceStone surfaces may also be downcycled into tiles, landscaping material and roadbed aggregate.
  •   Supply Chain: IceStone encourages suppliers to improve sustainability standards. IceStone’s glass and mother-of-
       pearl are recycled from post-industrial and post-consumer sources. IceStone advocates for stronger glass recycling
       programs in New York. We hope to create an infrastructure that allows the commercial re-use of regional waste
       glass. We buy cement regionally (sourced near York, PA) and we advocate for the greening of the cement industry.
       IceStone continuously conducts product research to seek the most eco-friendly and local materials as possible.

Cradle to Cradle™ assesses products on a number of criteria, such as the use of safe and healthy materials, design for material reuse and recycling, efficient use of energy and water throughout production, and instituting strategies for social responsibility. At IceStone we manufacture our products with 100% recycled glass in a cement matrix, diverting hundreds of tons of glass from landfills each year. We operate out of a renovated, day-lit factory in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, creating U.S. jobs for workers in an eco-friendly, safe and respectful environment. LEED & IceStone Durable Surfaces More Ways that IceStone Supports Green Building and a Healthy World: • Green Manufacturing and Office Facilities: IceStone has adopted goals for energy conservation, carbon emissions, water use, and waste management. IceStone will become carbon-neutral, purchase renewable energy credits, and will continue to reduce energy use per square foot of product produced. IceStone’s Water Management Principles are based on the Hannover Principles on Design for Sustainability and the Water Principles of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Waste from our facility is tracked and measured against reduction goals. Over 80% of our waste is recycled, recovered or composted. IceStone also conducts environmental education programs for employees. • Social Responsibility: IceStone’s mission statement addresses corporate ethics and social responsibility (available on www.icestone.biz). IceStone will complete a social audit with third-party verification. IceStone provides living- wages, health benefits, education programs and life-skill training to employees, including free English as a Second Language classes. IceStone’s donation program provides free or discounted material to projects that share similar social and environmental goals, with Habitat for Humanity receiving annual donations. We also partner with community, nonprofit, academic, industrial assistance and local social services groups to promote green-collar job creation, sustainable business practices, and the development of the green building industry. • Life Cycle: IceStone durable surfaces are defined as a Technical Nutrient by MBDC’s Cradle to Cradle™ certification due to human and ecological health characterization as well as reutilization potential. IceStone surfaces are suitable for many re-uses in a long life cycle. Fabricators will accept used IceStone surfaces and may cut a new piece. IceStone LLC accepts surfaces that are packaged and shipped back at the owner’s expense to IceStone LLC in Brooklyn, NY. IceStone surfaces are 100% recyclable via mechanical grinding and reforming. IceStone surfaces may also be downcycled into tiles, landscaping material and roadbed aggregate. • Supply Chain: IceStone encourages suppliers to improve sustainability standards. IceStone’s glass and mother-of- pearl are recycled from post-industrial and post-consumer sources. IceStone advocates for stronger glass recycling programs in New York. We hope to create an infrastructure that allows the commercial re-use of regional waste glass. We buy cement regionally (sourced near York, PA) and we advocate for the greening of the cement industry.
