2. Page Layout (Front Cover)
The page layout of my front cover uses conventional aspects
commonly seen on the front cover of music magazines. For
example………….
• The Route Of The Eye: on my front cover I have used
the route of the eye, this is where the reader can
immediately see all the important parts of the magazine in
one glance. They first see the masthead, the image and the
cover story. This is conventional because the reader can
see everything they need to see in just one look.
• The Left Third: on the front cover I have used the left
third method to present my information. The left third
method makes the information look tidier and is more
easily read by the reader. Also with the left third technique
it leaves the other side of the magazine for images and
coverlines.
• Central Image: The image used on the front cover of
my magazine Is conventional because the image is very
central so therefore the reader immediately notices the
image when they see the magazine.
3. Design (Front Cover)
The page design of my front cover uses conventional aspects
commonly seen on the front cover of music magazines. For
example………….
• Colours: the colours used on my front cover are blue, black, and
pink. These colours represent my genre of music; pop and attract my
target audience. For example the blue and the pink both connote
love and happiness, all the colours used are eye catching which is
conventional because the magazine wants to attract the target
audience.
• Font: the fonts used on my front cover are both conventional and
eye catching, they also relate to my genre of music. The font I used
for the Masthead is both eye catching and ‘Poppy’. The font used for
the coverlines is Kozuka Gothic Pro which is also eye catching and
bold. The font used for my cover story is in a serif font so this
immediately catches the eye of the reader as it stands out compared
to the san serif fonts.
• Image: the image used on the front cover of my magazine is
conventional because the artist is holding an acoustic guitar which is
related with my genre of music and he is also wearing conventional
and relatable clothing. For example the fashionable clothing with the
collar up which represents rebelliousness and can be related to the
pop genre as the readers of pop music are related with fashionable
clothing. The shot type used for the image is a mid shot, this shot
type was purposely used so that the reader can see what the artist is
wearing and holding. The mid shot is conventional because the
reader can relate to the clothing they see and the instrument being
held
4. Genre (Front Cover)
My front cover is conventional for the genre of music which
I'm trying to represent for example………….
• Colours: it is very conventional for the magazine front
cover to use colours than represent the genre of the
magazine. For example pink for a pop magazine.
• Font: the fonts used represent the pop genre of music
because they are eye catching, bold and are in bright
colours.
• Image: the image used on the front cover represents pop
music genre because he artist is wearing pop like clothes
and the artist is holding an instrument related with the
genre of music.
• Cover story: the cover story shown on the front
represent the genre of music because the cover story is
about a pop artist releasing a new pop song.
• Coverlines: the coverlines used on the front cover
represent the pop genre well because the stories used are
all about love and emotion and these feelings are
associated with the pop genre.
5. Mode Of Address (Front Cover)
The mode of address on my front cover is
conventional and engages the reader because………….
The language used speaks to the reader in a
formal, conversational voice. This style of mode of address is
conventional for a pop magazine because it engages the
audience and makes them want to carry on reading the
magazine.
The magazine uses quotes from pop artists for example ‘I’m
innocent’ quoted by Fraser Semper. The voice given off by
the celebrity is polite and talks to the reader engaging them
and attracting them to read the magazine.
By using this mode of address my reader will want to carry
on reading the magazine and will feel important when
reading the magazine as they are reading as if the magazine
is talking to them.
6. Page Layout (Double Page) The page layout of my front cover uses
conventional aspects commonly seen on the
front cover of music magazines. For
example………….
• When creating my double page spread I used the route of
the eye once again to demonstrate the information. This
ensures that the reader’s eye catches all the important
parts of the pages in a quick glance. E.g. the heading, the
pull quote and the image caption.
• My double page spread is conventional because I have
used the common method of having one page with the
left side having an image relating to the information on
the right hand side. This is conventional because the
reader can immediately see by the image that the double
page spread is going to be about the band ‘The Vibe’
• I have the information on the double page spread split
into columns so therefore it Is easily read. This is
conventional as it makes the magazine look appealing as
well making it easily read.
7. Design (Double Page) The page design of my double page uses
conventional aspects commonly seen on
the front cover of music magazines. For
example………….
• Colours: The colours used on my double page spread appeal
to my target audience and represent the pop genre as well as
being conventional. For example the pink which connotes
happiness and most of all pop music. When thinking of pop, the
colour which is represented with that genre of music is pink. I
have also used a red colour when I have wanted to catch the
readers eye. This Is conventional because the magazines
purpose is to attract the reader and make the magazine
appealing to them.
• Font: The fonts that I have used on my double page spread are
conventional, appealing and eye catching. For example I have
used a serif font for the majority of the text to show consistency
and so that it is easily read. I have used san serif fonts when I
have purposely tried to catch the readers attention. This is
conventional because I want the reader to see the pull quotes
and other important information.
• Image: The image used on my double page spread is
conventional because the clothing worn by the artist’s are
related to the pop genre. For example the leather jacket worn by
the female and the jewellery worn by one of the men. Both
these parts of costume represent fashion which is related with
the pop genre. Also the shot type used is a wide shot which is
conventional because it shows everything the singers are
wearing and their unity between each other.
8. Genre (Double Page) My double page is conventional for the genre
of music which I'm trying to represent for
example………….
• Colours: it is very conventional for the magazine double
page to use colours than represent the genre of the
magazine. For example pink for a pop magazine.
• Font: the fonts used represent the pop genre of music
because they are eye catching, bold and are in bright
colours.
• Image: the image used on the double page represents
pop music genre because the band are wearing pop like
clothes and the artist are wearing jewellery representing
the pop genre.
• Pull Quotes: the pull quotes used on my double page
spread represent the pop genre because they are in a san
serif font and in a bold pink outline. Also the words used
talk to reader in a positive tone.
9. Mode Of Address (Double Page)
The mode of address on my double page is
conventional and engages the reader
because………….
The language used speaks to the reader in a
formal, conversational style. I decided to use this type of
language because it engages the reader and attracts
them to carry on reading the magazine. By using a
conversational style of language the reader feels as
though the magazine is talking directly towards them.
The use of quotes on my double page spread intrigue
the reader because they want to know what their idols
have to say and how their lives are going. For example
“we’re all so excited” when the reader see’s their idols
quotes they’re going to want to read on because they
feel as though they are involved in the celebrities life.
When using this mode of address the reader will want to
carry on reading because they feel comfortable reading
what their idols are saying.
10. Page Layout (Contents Page)
The page layout of my contents page uses
conventional aspects commonly seen on the
contents page of music magazines. For
example………….
• The Route Of The Eye: on my contents page I have
used the route of the eye, this is where the reader can
immediately see all the important parts of the magazine in
one glance. They first see the masthead, the image and the
subscription offer . This is conventional because the reader
can see everything they need to see in just one look.
• The Left Third: on the contents page I have used the
left third method to present my information. The left third
method makes the information look tidier and is more
easily read by the reader. Also with the left third technique
it leaves the other side of the magazine for images and
coverlines.
• Page Numbers: the page numbers on my double page
spread are conventional because the numbers are easily
seen and visible so the reader can immediately see which
information is on which page.
11. Design (Contents Page) The page design of contents page uses
conventional aspects commonly seen on the
contents page of a music magazines. For
example………….
• Colours: the colours used on my contents page are
blue, black, and pink. These colours represent my genre of music;
pop and attract my target audience. For example the blue and the
pink both connote love and happiness, all the colours used are eye
catching which is conventional because the magazine wants to
attract the target audience.
• Font: the fonts used on my contents page are both conventional
and eye catching, they also relate to my genre of music. The font I
used for the Headline is Brittanic bold which is also eye catching and
bold. The font used for my cover story is in a serif font so this
immediately catches the eye of the reader as it stands out compared
to the san serif fonts.
• Image: the image used on the contents page of my magazine is
conventional because the artist is holding an acoustic guitar which is
related with my genre of music and he is also wearing conventional
and relatable clothing.
The mid shot is conventional because the
reader can relate to the clothing they see and the instrument being
held
12. Genre (Contents Page)
My contents page is conventional for the
genre of music which I'm trying to represent
for example………….
• Colours: it is very conventional for the magazine
contents page to use colours than represent the genre of
the magazine. For example pink and baby blue for a pop
magazine.
• Font: the fonts used represent the pop genre of music
because they are eye catching, bold and are in bright
colours. For example pink and blue.
• Image: the image used on the contents page represents
pop music genre because the singer is wearing pop like
clothes.
• Subscription Offer: the subscription used on my
double page spread is common for pop magazines because
the subscription offer relates to the pop genre of music.
13. Mode Of Address (Contents Page)
The mode of address on my contents page is
conventional and engages the reader
because………….
The language used speaks to the reader in a
formal, conversational style. I decided to use this type of
language because it engages the reader and attracts
them to carry on reading the magazine. By using a
conversational style of language the reader feels as
though the magazine is talking directly towards them.
The language used on the contents page is pretty
straight forward and not sophisticated because the
magazine just wants the reader to understand the
message given across easily.
When using this mode of address the reader will want to
carry on reading because they feel comfortable reading
what their idols are doing.
