In this panel session, the speakers, who have been actively engaged in international education research communities in Europe, North America, and Asia, and have contributed to international research by making use of these networks, will discuss from their own perspectives how to help Japan’s motivated next-generation and young researchers to become internationally active. The discussion will focus on what to do now and what knowledge, skills, and networks to acquire in order to contribute to the creation of new knowledge in education research, focusing on their own experiences and what they should do with their peers in the international education research communities.

日本の外国人大学教員の知識・知的能力開発機会とそれを妨げる要因の検証に取り組んでいる．聞き取りをした44名の語りでは，言語文化的な苦労がありながらも，主体的に，国際的に自身の能力の研鑽に励んでいる姿が浮かび上がった．先行研究に見られる，疎外され，日本の学術界を悲観するイメージとは異なる様子を窺い知ることができている． This paper presents some preliminary findings based on interviews with 44 foreign young academics in Japan. Although the literature often reports their exclusion and disappointment in Japanese academia, this study reveals their proactive, international engagement in their knowledge and intellectual development.
