74. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. WHAT IS BATCH PROCESSING? WHAT DOES BATCH OUT MEAN? Batch processing occurs when a merchant transmits the “batch” of daily sales stores in the terminal for processing. An “open” batch is one that is not yet “closed.” To “close” a batch or to “batch-out” means to transmit the information from the merchant’s location (terminal or software) to our processor. Q. WHAT IS A BATCH FEE? This is a fee charged each time a merchant “batches-out” their terminal or software. AMP’s default Batch Fee is 20 ¢ per batch. If a merchant is open everyday and batches out one time each day, they will be charged $6.00 per month. Q. WHAT TIME DOES AUTO-BATCH OCCUR? Auto batch or auto-settlement occurs at midnight. Q. WHAT IS AUTHORIZATION? Authorization is a request from a merchant to charge a credit card. The credit card is not actually charged until the authorization is settled . 1.877.680.4ACE
75. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. WHAT IS SETTLEMENT? Settlement is a procedure in which a merchant requests that some or all authorized transactions be processed by a credit card processor. This processing includes charging the customer's credit card and transferring the money owed to the merchant. Q. WHAT IS GROSS SALES? Gross Sales means the total dollar amount of all sales with nothing subtracted. Q. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A “VOID” AND A CREDIT/REFUND? Void means cancelling a credit card transaction that has been authorized , but not settled . Credit/Refund means cancelling a credit card transaction that has been authorized and settled . Q. WHAT IS A RETRIEVAL FEE? A retrieval fee is a fee for requesting a copy of the transaction receipt for a transaction that was processed. AMP’s Retrieval Fee is 10 ¢ per item. 1.877.680.4ACE
76. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. WHAT DOES A CHARGEBACK MEAN? A chargeback is a reversal of a credit card transaction, as viewed from the perspective of the merchant. It usually occurs when a consumer files a complaint with their bank or credit/debit card provider. This usually happens when a consumer discovers fraudulent transactions on their statement. The bank will investigate the complaints, and will “take back” the value of the original transaction, together with an additional fee, directly from the merchant’s account, unless the merchant can prove the transaction was legitimate. AMP’s Chargeback Fee is $25.00 . Q. WHAT IS A MINIMIM MONTHLY FEE? To help maintain a level of excellent service and support to our merchants, our accounts come with a Monthly Minimum of $20.00 . The minimum is calculated by multiplying your qualified discount rate against your total sales for the given month. This amount is then subtracted from your minimum and you are charged the difference. For example, if you had $750.00 in sales for January and are paying 2.00% as your qualified rate, you would be charged the difference of $5.00 with a $20 minimum. Ex: $20.00 - ($750.00 X 2.00%). On the other hand, if you processed $1,000 in charges, you would not be charged anything as it equals or exceeds the minimum. Keep in mind you are only charged the difference and not simply a flat rate. 1.877.680.4ACE
77. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. WHAT IS AVS? AVS stands for Address Verification Service. It is a system used to verify the identity of the person claiming to own the credit card. The system will check the billing address of the credit card provided by the user with the address on file at the credit card company. AMP charges 10 ¢ per item for Electronic AVS. Q. WHAT IS VOICE AVS? Voice AVS is manually verifying the address of a cardholder against the card by calling the card in to the processor’s help desk. AMP charges $2.00 per item for Voice AVS. Q. WHAT IS A VOICE AUTHORIZATION FEE? This fee is only charged when you call in your transaction to an 800 number. It is useful if your terminal or software isn’t working and you need to perform an authorization. Most merchants do not need to use this service.
