On Remembrance Day (Poppy Day), a Mersey river cruise took place from Liverpool to Birkenhead. The cruise crossed the Mersey river estuary on November 14, 2010 to observe Remembrance Day, which is held annually on the Sunday nearest to November 11th in the UK to honor those who died in World War I and II. During the cruise, the modern Liverpool skyline could be seen from the ferry across the river, and passengers visited Hamilton Square in Birkenhead, where a monument honors those who died in the two World Wars and displays poppy crowns from Remembrance Day.
