2. CAMPER CONFIDENCE ABOUNDS
AT YMCA CAMP CULLEN
Aaliyah had a life-changing experience
last summer at YMCA Camp Cullen.
Not only did attending camp give her
the opportunity to experience the great
outdoors, meet new friends, and develop
new skills, but it also helped her develop
confidence.
Ten-year-old Aaliyah was apprehensive
about being away from home for an entire
week.
“She didn’t want to stay until she saw the
horses,” her mom said. “Horseback riding
made her so happy, and she had a lot of
fun participating in the other activities.”
She made new friends with her cabin
mates. They helped her come out of
her shell. Her counselors also ensured

that she, like every other camper, had a
wonderful camp experience.
“Meeting new people was a real thrill for
her, and making new friends made the
experience worth it,” her mom said.
Aaliyah, like most kids, experienced
personal growth and self-reliance while at
camp. That is what YMCA Camp Cullen is
all about.
“Kids grow and learn how to be stronger
and more independent,” said Shawn
Borzelleri, YMCA vice president of
programs. “Our programs are focused on
developing each child, and we see that
every summer from children who attend
camp.”
Aaliyah has already started asking her
mom to send her back to camp again this
summer.
“She really wants to try the horseback
riding camp,” her mom said. “She can’t
wait to bond with new friends and
counselors.”
