2. There are many questions about the
Leaning Tower of Pisa such as when it
was built, who built it, how far it leans,
when did it start leaning, the height of
the tower and how can it be fixed.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the
most famous tourist spots in all the
world. It is located in the Italian town of
Pisa, one of the most visited European
cities.
3. When?
The construction of Tower
of Pisa began in August
1173 and continued for
about 200 years due to
the onset of a series of
wars and was finally
finished after 344 years.
4. Who?
I'm not completely sure who the real
creator of the Leaning Tower of Pisa
was. Originally, Bonanno Pisano was
credited with the design. Though he
lived for several years in Monreale,
eventually, he returned to Pisa before
he died. His sarcophagus was found
at the foot of the tower in 1820.
5. How did it tilt?
The tower's tilt began during construction,
caused by an inadequate foundation on ground
too soft on one side to properly support the
structure's weight. The tower began to sink
after construction had progressed to the second
floor in 1178. The tilt increased in the decades
before the structure was completed, and
gradually increased until the structure was
stabilized (and the tilt partially corrected) by
efforts in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
6. They have stopped the
leaning of the tower by
pumping liquid
concrete under the
leaning side of the
tower and it is now
safe to walk to the top.
8. I think that The Leaning Tower of Pisa
is a very interesting place because it had
survived many years and many wars.
Also the town of Pisa is very beautiful. I
would love to visit it because my dad
has been there and he has slept
underneath the Tower of Pisa on the
grass with thirty other backpackers.
So, I think The Leaning Tower of Pisa is
a great place to visit altogether.
