balance, proportion and
disciplined expression.

• still tightly – linked to the
court culture’s absolutism
• formality and emphasis on
order and hierarchy
NEW STYLE FEATURES
• favored clearer divisions
between parts
• brighter contrasts and colors
• simplicity rather than
complexity
