120 - New and Processed Books – valued at $2,000.00 Big Books Board Books Picture Books (fiction and non-fiction) Chapter Books Reference Books Collection Connections Classical Music Rock N Roll Living and World Jazz Folk and Contemporary Country Music  Hip Hop Music
Program Materials… If  you do not receive your materials, please adhere to the following procedures: -  contact the engineer and clerk of the K-2SOR school  - speak with a member of administration - contact  your coach All K-2SOR librarians should expect 5 boxes of English language materials to be sent in purple and white Children’s Plus boxes to their K-2SOR school library.  Schools with Spanish speaking populations will receive 4 more Children’s Plus boxes with Spanish language materials.
  Program Materials…   Red and white and cardboard boxes from Scholastic with 45 copies of 6 books. These are the books used as  attendance incentives .  If students have perfect attendance each week, they all get the same book to take home and keep forever. If they do not have perfect attendance, you can search for a good reason to give them the book.  Half of the school will receive 45 copies of 12 books (6 in English, 6 in Spanish) their children receive 2 books each week for perfect attendance. Give out all books to participating children by the end of the program –  no books should be left .

Summer of Reading Program… Check the SOR Wikispace for a list of Track E Schools The program begins:  June 22 nd Track E Schools – 5 Weeks  June 22 nd  – July 21 st Traditional Track Schools – 6 Weeks June 22 nd  – July 28th
Encourage your students to read 25 books during the summer! - Take student attendance - Record/collect all data for entry into CIM - Record/collect all data for CPL   10 books –  read with the librarian   10 books –  read at home   5 books –  read aloud to someone in the    library (reading buddy) Your responsibilities…
-  Students with good attendance each week will receive a free paperback book from Scholastic Books.  (possible 6 free books can be earned!) - Use your best judgement when deciding how to distribute remaining paperback books from the program. Your responsibilities…
Summer of Reading Program… 5 day work week – Monday - Friday June 22 nd  through July 8 th 4 day work week – Monday – Thursday July 11th through July 28th
Your Day At A Glimpse… 8:30am to 9:00am  - Read Aloud With All Students 9:00am to 9:30am  - Work with Parents or Shelve Books 9:30am to 10:30am  - Kdg. class 10:30am to 11:30am  - 1 st  grade class  11:30am to 12:30pm  - 2 nd  grade class 12:30pm to 1:00pm  -  student lunch
  Parent Participation –  - It is vital for you to welcome parents for the one hour 8:30-9:30 (this is one of the main reasons the entire program was funded) - You may be visited at their school by outside auditors to see parents attending - Librarian Activity

Chicago Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
Encourage your students to participate in the CPL Library Card Campaign Cards will be issued free for first time applicants and users that need a replacement card Fines will not be forgiven  Very Important:  On the CPL library card application, the students must write their first and last name.  The parent may not write the name for the child
Have your students record the titles of the books read on the CPL Folder.  This form should be kept in the school until completely filled out; students may have the form upon completion.  Very important:  the cardstock registration forms stay in school, once completed they  will go to their Chicago Public Branch librarian.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and create an engaging activity/lesson that focuses around the CPL theme of “Book Beats” - The class periods are intended to be collaborative efforts between librarian and classroom teacher.  There are no prep periods during this program. Your responsibilities…

Half of the school will receive 45 copies of 12 books (6 in English, 6 in Spanish) their children receive 2 books each week for perfect attendance. Give out all books to participating children by the end of the program – no books should be left .

  • 18. Chicago Public Library’s Summer Reading Program

Encourage your students to participate in the CPL Library Card Campaign Cards will be issued free for first time applicants and users that need a replacement card Fines will not be forgiven Very Important: On the CPL library card application, the students must write their first and last name. The parent may not write the name for the child
  • 20. Have your students record the titles of the books read on the CPL Folder. This form should be kept in the school until completely filled out; students may have the form upon completion. Very important: the cardstock registration forms stay in school, once completed they will go to their Chicago Public Branch librarian.
