A habitat is the place where a plant or animal lives. There are two main types of habitats - land and water. Land habitats include forests, grasslands, deserts and woodlands. Animals that cannot live in water prefer land habitats. Water habitats consist of seas, rivers, lakes and swamps, providing living spaces for creatures that cannot survive on dry land. Some animals are able to live in both land and water habitats. Man-made habitats like zoos and aquariums are created to resemble natural habitats.
