3. Meet Mrs. Buchanan.
• This is my 5th year at PCCS teaching 4th
grade math and 3rd year teaching science.
• I am also on the 4-5 Elementary Honor
Society Committee for students with high
academic and behavioral achievements.
• One of the BIGGEST things you
need to remember is that teachers
are HUMAN! I WILL mess up. Please
don’t expect perfection. I will
remember that for YOU, too!
4. “Meet” Mrs. Buchanan’s Family
My husband's name is Brian,
We LOVE traveling and watching all kinds
of movies together.
My son, Brady, is in 4th grade.
He’s into Science experiments and cub
scouts. He is playing football and
baseball again this year.
My daughter, Chloe, is almost 6. She is in
1st grade in Miss Starr's class. Chloe is
taking hip hop dance and clogging this
year.

Starting the Day
7:50 Classroom opens
– I may be in the room preparing for class, but please give me the
time alone I need to do just that. I love to see your SMILING
faces, but not until 7:50. Please place your homework ON TOP of
your desk when you arrive so I can quietly take attendance and
check homework.
• 8:00 Attendance taken and class begins
– You will be counted tardy if you are not in the classroom when the bell
rings at 8:00. BE ON TIME and be prepared to have a GOOD day! (In
other words, have a POSITIVE attitude!)
• Once you are unpacked, please begin your
morning work.
• You will be in my classroom until 9:40 when we
have a bathroom break and then go to Mrs.
Baker's class for reading.
6. Using the Restroom
• You are given three times to use the restroom
throughout the day:
– Before 8:00 when in the hallway.
– At 9:40 before reading class.
– At 11:50 after lunch.
Use the bathroom at these times!
You may NOT use the restroom when I am in front of
the class teaching.
Please make sure to WASH YOUR HANDS after using
the restroom. Count to 5 when drying your hands.
Use this time to get a drink from the water fountain.
You may not get a drink when we are walking to
another class or program.
7. In our Seats
We must remain in our seats while the teacher
is teaching. You may not get up for any
reason unless you are asked to.
If you need a tissue, give me the signal and I
will allow you to get one. Please do not over
use this rule.
Keep all your trash at your desk until the
teacher is finished teaching.
8. Your Desk
What to keep in desk:
Things you need all the time…
paper, pencil, notebooks, school books, etc.
What not to keep in desk:
-Corrected papers (take them home!) ALL PAPERS THAT ARE
TO GO HOME will be sent in your Friday folder.
-TOYS (or anything that you choose to play with in class) DO NOT
BELONG IN YOUR DESK.
Mrs. Buchanan will be happy to hold anything that distracts you until
the last day of school.
Other people will be sitting at your desk.
*PLEASE KEEP YOUR DESK NEAT AND ORGANIZED.
Don’t leave valuable items in your desk at all.
9. Lockers
• Please keep your locker neat and
organized. Respect your locker mate!
• You may not hang pictures INSIDE OR
OUTSIDE of your locker.
• You may not have a lock on your locker at any time.
• Please do not put anything of value inside your locker.
10. Our Classroom
• Floor:
– Must be clean before any of us leave for the day.
– Anything left on the floor may just disappear.
• Desks:
– Keep them neat and organized. Desks will be
checked daily..
• Supplies:
– If you lose your notebooks or another item you
need for class then WRITE YOURSELF A
REMINDER NOTE stating what it is that you need.
• Pencils will be kept in a community tub. You should have no more
than 2 pencils at a time.
11. Our Reward System!
• I am always looking for good
behavior…so be ready!
– Make sure your stamp pad is ready on your
desk with your name on it.
• I will be giving out stamps
throughout the day. Collect 10
from Mrs. Buchanan and Mrs. Baker
and choose a reward!
• Don’t lose your stamp pad or you will
have to start over.
12. Mrs. Buchanan’s Stuff
• My desk is off limits.
– You are not allowed to be at or near it without
permission and please do NOT spend any time
gazing at any papers I may have laying on it.
• My teacher “closet” is off limits
• Please feel free to use the items I’ve left out
on the supply table.

14. Telling Time
• Lunch is at 11:20.
Recess is at 12:00
• I know how to tell time.
16. BIRTHDAYS
• You may bring treats. Make sure you
bring enough for everyone.
• We’ll sing Happy Birthday and enjoy
your snack during lunch or silent reading
times only.
17. Grades
• Math
– Tests/Projects 75%
– Class work/Morning work 15%
– Homework 10%
18. END OF THE DAY
• 2:30
– Get your desk clean and make sure you have your
homework ready. That includes having a book to
read. Also, remember, no one leaves until our floor
is tidy.
• 2:40
– Bus riders and students going with a younger
sibling are dismissed.
• 2:45
– Car riders will go with me to the front of the
school. We will line up quietly on the right side
lawn.
