Member of the Month
By Asa Best, Director of Recruitment
Congratulations to Juan Serrat
for becoming the AJF PRSSA’s
Oct/Nov 2013 member of the
month. Juan comes from Sicklerville, NJ and transferred
here this semester. Upon
introduction Juan hit the
ground running, quickly
proving to be a key member in PRSSA. He expresses true passion for the
organization, stating that
“PRSSA’s comradery is infectious due to its ability to
provide members inspiration in
collectively succeeding together.”
Juan exudes modest confidence
with an eagerness to learn and a
networking approach centered on
empathy.
Currently he participates in the
Liasian Committee, balancing responsibility while managing his
PRaction client, Labrador Farms.
When not at Rowan University,
Juan dedicates time
to his passion for
non profit work by
volunteering at
Philadelphia Animal
Welfare Society.
Upon graduation in
May 2015 he hopes
to continue his dedication in pursuing
non profit PR work,
with a dream job at the Philadelphia Zoo.
Once again, congratulations to
Oct/Nov member of the month
Juan Serrat. May this be just the
beginning of your successful
journey in public relations.
A Message From The President
Dear Members,
Thank you for your participation this semester in PRSSA. This organization
could not function properly and successfully without the support of its general
members. I am proud to serve as president for this chapter and see such enthusiasm not only about PRSSA, but the public relations industry in general. Even
though the semester is coming to an end, I cannot wait for what next semester
brings. Keep up the hard work, dedication, and of course passion to the industry, three ingredients that not only lead our chapter to success, but will someday
lead our members there as well.
Best Regards,
Diana DiNapoli
President, PRSSA

2. ImPRove Your Skills Over Break
Winter Break is right around the corner. Here are some things you
can do to sharpen and improve your PR skills during our time off:
Update Your Resume and
LinkedIn. Add any new things
you have done during the
semester. Make sure your
resume and LinkedIn are
consistent.
Read a Book Related to the
Industry. I recommend
“Normal Gets You NoWhere”
by Kelly Cutrone or “This Is
How You Pitch: How To Kick
Ass In Your First Years Of PR”
by Ed Zitron.
Clean Up Your Portfolio.
Make sure your portfolio has
your latest and best work. This
can give you a huge advantage
when looking for a job/internship.
Research. Look up some
companies you may want to
work for once you graduate.
Start following some industryrelated blogs.
Clean Your Computer. You
probably have a ton of work
from this past semester. Now is
a good time to back up your
hard drive and get rid of files
you don’t need.
Start Using a New Social
Media Platform. Or work on
perfecting your skills on a
current platform.
