Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc.
CALL FOR PRESENTERS
The planning committee for Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation Conference is currently looking for
workshop presentations for our 7th Annual Conference with the theme of Rejuvenating Sisterhood. We
are requesting workshops that are informative, interactive and appropriate for women 16 and up. We
are seeking presenters who are passionate about helping women to empower themselves and
understand the relevance of each woman being a part of the cure needed in our communities. The
conference will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 9:00am- 5pm. Our expected audience
participation is 300 plus women from the Baltimore, Virginia, Washington, D.C., New York and
Pennsylvania areas.
The purpose of this conference is to help perpetuate a nation-wide movement of healing for our families
and communities, in order to generate a vibrant future. Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc. is a
movement to gather, educate and encourage women from all cultures and backgrounds to utilize each
other for the common goals of personal, community and nation-wide advancement.
We invite you to submit a proposal detailing your workshop via email at conference@partofthecure.org,
no later than November 16, 2009 by 5pm. Hard copy submissions will not be accepted. Presenters
will be notified of accepted proposals by January 5, 2010.

2. Presenter Details
Workshop and Handouts:
Each workshop session is 75 minutes. Please prepare for approximately 30 women attending your session.

Handouts submitted by March 10 , may be copied and held until conference day. If you are interested in this
service please note this in your proposal. Pages and number of copies may be limited.
Audio Visual Support:
Each workshop room will be equipped with a flipchart and markers. Currently, projectors and laptops will not be
provided.
Travel Accommodations:
Each presenter is responsible for their own travel and overnight accommodations. Presenters are provided
complimentary admittance to the conference and lunch.
Honorariums/ Fees:
Unfortunately, HWHN does not provide presenter honorariums at this time; however, we will provide you with
lunch, admittance to all conference activities and exposure to all conference participants and an amazing gift.

HOW ARE SPEAKERS SELECTED?
 The conference committee reviews all workshop proposals in order to distinguish the appropriateness of
the material. Speakers are then selected based on the review of the submitted information. Including the
bio, resume or curriculum vitae, workshop description, etc. A brief phone interview may be required. All
selected presenters must sign a speaker’s agreement. In the event a speaker is not chosen, they may
be contacted by members of Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc. to present community
workshops throughout the year. If you would like to be considered for this opportunity please

WILL I NEED TO PROVIDE A BIOGRAPHY? WILL IT BE PUBLISHED IN ANY CONFERENCE MATERIALS?
 YES! A one paragraph bio is required. If you are selected to speak, you will receive a notification and
more details from the conference committee, your brief bio may be published on our website and in the
conference program booklet.
History of the conference: Founded in 2004, what started as a pamper party turned into a day of
empowerment and prestige. As a community service initiative Mothyna James, Miss Morgan State University
2003- 2004, sought to provide a day of pampering for women. However, in an effort to serve the whole woman,
workshops, resource material and a keynote address were added to the relaxation activities. Thus, April 2004
marked the birth of The Heal a Woman, Heal a Nation (HWHN) conference held at Morgan State University
sponsored by Vivian Ryan and the Office of Student Activities. The conference’s goal was to aid in fostering a
relationship between collegiate women and women in the surrounding community. It persuaded its participants to
look to each other and to become the vanguard for positive change within their communities. The uniqueness and
originality of the HWHN conference stems from its target audience, this conference is not only marketed to
collegiate and professional women but also women who live in transitional housing. In 2007 we underwent a slight
name change to clarify our purpose and meaning. Now, The Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation conference has
grown to incorporate several community partners including Baltimore City Public Schools Community Schools
Initiative, The Afro-American Newspaper and Malika Kambe Umfazi Sorority, Inc. HWHN Conference promises to
continue to grow, establishing it as one of the most powerful women’s conferences in the Baltimore area.
In order to further its mission the Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation Conference has grown to Heal a Woman to
Heal a Nation, Inc. Heal a Woman to Heal a Nation, Inc. is a community based organization that promotes holistic
wellness for women and families through education, physical and mental health, economic and self
empowerment. We heal our communities by first building and repairing the lives of women. HWHN believes that
healthy, educated and empowered women produce healthy, educated and thriving communities.
