Analyze-
 My classroomhas15 studentsrangingfromthe ages10 to 15.
 There are 8 malesand 7 females.
 Theyhave recently arrivedtothe UnitedStatesfromRussia.
 The studentsspeak English.
 The studentshave visual impairments.
 These studentsare AuditoryandKinestheticlearnersdue totheirvisual impairment.
State Objectives
 My studentswillidentifythe activitiesof the 4th
of Julyholidaybyeatingfoodsspecifictothe
holiday,identifyingthe colorsthroughtouch,andcomparing/contrastingthe similaritiesand
differencesbetween America’sIndependence dayandRussiaday. Theywill identifythese
activitiesbythe endof the weekwith98% accuracy.
SelectMethods,Mediaand Materials
 The methods chosenforthislessonare methodsfitforAuditoryandKinestheticlearners.
 The media chosenforthese studentsisayoutube.comvideosothatthe studentscanhear the
soundthat fireworks make. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn_jgbFPyBQ.
 The materials are handwarmersto depictthe colorred, cotton ballstodepictthe color white
and an ice pack to depictthe colorblue. Othermaterialsinclude:hamburgers,apple pie,potato
salad,watermelon,andpop –rocks. ( to explainfireworks).
Utilize Mediaand Materials
 Teacheruse of material will be toprepare the foodsforthe studentstotaste,openupthe
youtube.comvideo, freeze the ice pack,activate the handwarmerandbringthe cotton balls.
 The studentswill sample eachfooditemandlistentothe soundof fireworks.The studentswill
taste the pop rocks aftera brief overview of whatwill happenwhentheyputthe pop-rocksin
theirmouths.Thiswill symbolizewhatactionsafire workhas.
o To activate the lessonIwill askthe studentsaboutthe festivitiesinRussiaon“Russia
Day”. ThenI will explainsome of the similaritiesbetweenthe 4th
of Julyand RussiaDay.
o Next,Iwill explainourfirstactivity.Iwill passoutthe foodsthatAmericanswouldhave
at a cookout on the 4th
of July.The studentswill samplethe hamburgers,apple pie,
potatosalad,and watermelon.We will discussthe studentslikesordislikes.The
studentswill compare orcontrastwhattheywouldeaton “RussiaDay”.
o Afterthat,I will introduce the colorsof the UnitedStatesflagthroughtouch.First,I will
letthe studentstoucha hand warmer.Iwill explainthat itisthe colorred.Second,I will
have themtouch a cottonball that wouldrepresentthe colorwhite.Lastly,Iwill pass
arounda coldice pack that will representthe colorblue.Iwill tellthe studentsthat
those were the colorsonthe Americanflag.Then,Iwill passarounda ruler(stripes) and
a cut out of a star to explainwhatisonthe UnitedStatesflag.
o The nextactivitywill be toexplain4th

lessonbybeingdiscussingthe similaritiesof the 4th

theywill have the optiontosample Americancookoutfood.Thentheywill use theirsense
of touchto associate feelingwithcolor.Afterthattheywill listentothe soundof fireworks
and experience the explosionof pop-rockcandyintheirmouths.
Evaluate
 I will evaluate the lessonbywhetherornotthe studentsseemtoenjoywhattheyare doing.
I will see howtheyreactto the differentactivities. Iwill see if the soundsare easytohear
and if the videoworkswell enough.
 Thenat the endof the weekIwill askeachstudenttogive me some examplesof whatthey
learnedtosee if the lessonwasbeneficial tothe students.If notthenI will rearrange the
lessonaccordingly.
