3. Introduction
We are living in a fast-paced world of ample information exchange.
With Technologies like SKYPE and Twitter, we can communicate with a
friend in London, England as if we were around the corner from each other,
or engage in a conversation with a world-renowned PhD or Senator in 140
characters. In lieu of that, those of us that are in the self-help profession are
compelled to affect people in a very quick and concise manner, giving
simple tools that are easily employable and effective. It was with this in
mind that I created this coaching manual and philosophy. In this eBook, you
will find, a system and phrases, that if followed, can truly resonate and
change your life in three-word increments.
Three-word increments? Yes! Biblically, three is a number that
represents God, perfect processes, and completion. The number 3 is formed
by 1+1+1, but if the 1's are multiplied, the result is still 1, which is why it is
the number of personal completeness. In this context, it is the number of the
Godhead; it stands for the triune God. So, God is three-in-one and one-in-
three. As I mentioned before, three also represents the completion of parts
or of a process. A complete man is formed with spirit, soul, and body. The
resurrection process took three days. The earth came of the water on the
third day. All things that are especially complete are stamped with this
3
4. number three. God's attributes are three: omniscience, omnipresence, and
omnipotence. Three times the Seraphim cry, "Holy, Holy, Holy"--one for
each of the three persons in the Trinity (Isaiah 6:3).
Outside of the Bible, we see the extension of the significance of the
number three. There are three great divisions completing time--past,
present, and future. Three persons, in grammar, express and include all the
relationships of mankind. Thought, word, and deed, complete the sum of
human capability. Three degrees of comparison complete our knowledge of
qualities. The simplest proposition requires three things to complete it: viz.,
the subject, the predicate, and the copula. There are many references to this
number, far too many to name. The number always points us to what is real,
essential, perfect, substantial, complete, and divine.
I’m sure some of you are asking yourselves: “Dr. Sims what does all
of this have to do with life coaching?” I wanted you to know, that though
simplistic in nature, the work that has been put into this ebook, what I offer
my clients, and my life coaching philosophy are purposely thought out,
founded on time-tested Universal truths. As you read ahead, I ask that you
internalize and actualize these steps and words, as they are as powerful as a
tiny little number on which so much has been created.

5. Chapter 1. What is Life Coaching?
Potential clients often ask this question, particularly those who have
worked with therapists before. My answer is very simple: a therapist
looks backwards on how your life is based on your experiences but a life
coach looks forward to how your life could be based on your vision. A life
coach is there to support you as you build and act on your vision. And
because faith and belief is the lifeline of embarking on the completion of a
vision, a life coach can hold your vision for you until your faith in you kicks
in!
Tony Robbins says, “Clarity is power.” There is a wealth of
knowledge in this statement. If you do not know where you are going, how
are you going to know when you get there? A life coach is also a vessel for
clarity. I have used several life coaches myself. The power of having
someone there to help you carve out your focus and gain clarity is priceless.
Furthermore, a life coach helps you stay accountable to yourself. It is
comforting to know that, when you want to quit because you get frustrated
with the process that it takes to live the life of your dreams, your life coach
is on the other end of the phone saying, “I am not going to let you give up,
not on my watch!” I have had to say this to more than one of my clients!
5
6. And in today’s defeatist climate, encouragement and accountability are
precious gems.
Now, you must know that everyone does not appreciate the role of the
life coach. Some say that life coaches are for weak-minded people yet,
nothing could be further from the truth! Life coaches are employed by
people that understand the importance of their time and the potential impact
on their lives, so much so, they wish to invest in themselves, and work with
someone in order to have their purpose manifested! There is nothing weak-
minded about it!
If we look to business leaders and sports legends, there is a common
denominator across the board for those who have achieved great success.
Time and time again, the study of biographies shows us that some coaching
or coach role has played a pivotal role in the lives of key men and women.
We all know that Michael Jordan flourished under the right leader who was
a coach by the name of Phil Jackson. Years later, Kobe Bryant, the recent
beneficiary of the same expert coaching, won his 5th NBA title. When
asked, former CEO of Wal-mart and noteworthy business leader, Bill Fields,
attributes his success to the motivation and insight of his coach Sam Walton.
And Biblically, we could not tell the story of Moses had Aaron not been
there. Life coaching is as old as time. So, while all the naysayers hate on
6
7. life coaches, I am definitely a proponent of them and not just because it’s
what I do!
More pointedly, Life coaching is a professional service providing
clients with feedback, insights, and guidance from an outside vantage point.
Coaching is similar to the practice of counseling, but the major difference is
that coaching is an ongoing collaborative partnership built on taking action.
People hire a coach when they are making a career transition, starting a
new business, ending a relationship, feeling dissatisfied, re-evaluating life
choices or simply looking for personal and professional breakthroughs.1

8. Chapter 2. Is Change Necessary?
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity!
Albert Einstein
We only have one life to live. I have decided that I want to live this
one life to the very best of my ability. It is my role as a life coach to want
each client to adopt this philosophy and lifestyle! At the core of that desire
is change. To reach new heights, you must always push forward and change
that which you have been doing.
One of my clients made a statement during a coaching session,
“Everything in my life is a mess.” The Lord quickened my spirit and I
replied with a revelatory remark, “Do you know who is at the center of all of
your interactions? YOU ARE! Do you know if you work on you, all of your
interactions will get better! All of your life you have been trying to change
others, now it’s time to change that approach and change yourself!” There
was silence on the phone.
I love the song by Michael Jackson, The Man in the Mirror. Change
starts with YOU. It is always easier for us to find a splinter in our
neighbor’s eye even though we have a plank sticking out of our eye. This
Biblical inference is simply pointing to the fact that so many times we can
pinpoint other people’s areas that need changing and we seem lost when it
8
9. comes to our faults. We can’t go through life dissatisfied because of a lack
of change in our lives when we have not changed ourselves from within. In
order to expect change out of this life, chances are you must focus on being
the best version of “you” that you can be. This requires work and work alone
will get it done. And, yes, change is always necessary.
What does change look like? Let’s look at what the dictionary has to
say about change. One of the definitions of change is simply defined as
becoming different.1 You are the only one that can change you. As I stated
in my debut book, Living Motivated, you have to make up your mind to
change. Are there steps that you can take to CHANGE? Yes there are.
Here are the first three!
First, accept the facts. There are so many things in your life right
now that are true. Facing them does not mean you are any less of a person
than if you pretend that your reality is not your reality. The fact of the
matter is, you are more of a person because you are willing to face your
truth. Ok, so you are in debt up to your eyeballs. Your relationship is
average at best. You are on a dead end job. You have not been the best
anything. You have been abused, misused, talk about, and criticized. And
here’s the kicker, some of these situations have been handed down to you
9
10. but if you are really honest, most you have created or consciously
participated in! Yes! You!
All of that may be your reality but it does not have to be your future.
Things can turn around for you right now if you so desire. When Jesus met
the man who had been by the pool-side for 38 years, He simply asked him
did he want to be made whole. Jesus did not spend any time asking the man
how long he had been waiting to be placed in the water---the Who, What,
When, and Why didn’t matter! Jesus knew his reality but Jesus also knew
that a change was about to take place. Your change can begin right now if
you simply accept where you are and be willing to move forward.
Secondly, consider the alternative. Let’s say its five years down the
road and you simply continue on the course you are on right now. What will
your life be like if you do absolutely nothing? I will be willing to lay some
money on the side of NOTHING. The enemy, Satan, the devil, has you
under the impression that you have all the time in the world. But guess
what? Tomorrow is coming and if you do not CHANGE, your tomorrow
will look exactly like your today. Do you want to continue a life of
mediocrity? The choice is yours.
10
11. Thirdly, never underestimate the power of one step. The Chinese
have a proverb that says, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one
step.” To continue with the example of Jesus and the man by the poolside,
consider this: Every day the man went about his life was miraculous. But
the moment of the miraculous act happened on that day where he got up and
took that FIRST step! That’s where the “magic” or should we say miracle
always begins!
I am encouraging you right now just to take one step toward your
destiny. I know you can take that one step. I am proud to say that I have
published a book. But do you know the first step for me was in making the
decision to write it? Once I did that, the floodgates opened up. I started
writing and the words would not stop flowing. All you have to do is make
up your mind to make up your mind. Take that initial step toward your
destiny and I guarantee that will propel you into unchartered territory. You
will begin doing things that you never dreamed that YOU would be doing.
