This document outlines lessons for an 8th grade art, language arts, and media class focusing on self-expression through different mediums. Students will write poems about themselves, create pipe cleaner figures representing their poems, and discuss a painting using discussion strategies. They will then sketch self-portraits, paint them to express the emotion in their poems, and include highlights from the poems in the backgrounds. Finally, students will present their work to a 5th grade media class, discussing the relationship between art and writing, and creating a video of the presentation.
