JAIST : Doctor of Philosophy (Knowledge
Science) or Doctor of Philosophy
(Information Science)
SIIT : Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering
and Technology
Co-found by NECTEC, JAIST, AIT, and SIIT
7. Admission Criteria
An eligible applicant must have
completed a master's degree in
engineering or science or related fields
with very good academic record and/or
thesis experience;
If he/she is a current/former master's
degree student of SIIT, he/she needs to
have
at least one international journal publication
Or a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.

applicant can contact a professor

Application submission is 17 August 2012.

12. Student Status
During the first year, students will take a
separate screening exam administered each
year by JAIST to be enrolled at JAIST from the
second year of this program with reference to
the general regulations of student admission of
JAIST.
Successful students of the screening exam
administered by JAIST will be enrolled at JAIST
in October of the second year of this program.
Students participating in this program will be
given a status of regular student at SIIT from
the first year and at JAIST from the second year.
13. Application Documents (I)
Application form + Two photos
Transcript and certificate copy
A graduated master's degree in Engineering or
Science or related fields with very good academic
record and/or thesis experience; or must be a
current/former master's degree student of SIIT with
at least one international journal publication; or must
have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
Two letters of recommendations.
One from the thesis advisor at the master level
One from the head of the department or a head at
working place.
14. Application Documents (II)
The applicant must submit one of the following
English language test scores:
TOEFL score, at least 400 (paper-based) or
97 (computer-based), or 32 (internet-based).
IELTS score, at least 4.5.
TU-GET score, at least 400.
The score must not be older than two years
from the date on which it was issued to the date
of the application for admission to the program.
15. Other requirement
Students must achieve one of the following
English scores by the end of their first year.
TOEFL score, at least 600 (paper-based) or 250
(computer-based), or 100 (internet-based).
IELTS score, at least 7.5.
TU-GET score, at least 650.
The score must not be older than two years
from the date on which it was issued to the date
of the application for admission to the program.

Transcript of Master's and Doctoral programs.
Certificate of completion of Master's program.
Certificate of Master's degree.
An outline of the applicant's research at JAIST.
One photocopy of master's thesis.
21. JAIST Admission (Second year) (II)
If the thesis is not written in English, the table of
contents and the abstract of the thesis in English
must be attached.
Copy of the score report of TOEFL, TOEIC, or
IELTS (Academic) which is not more than two
years old as of the application deadline.
(TOEFL>600 if possible)
Certificate of screening fee payment.
Students should pay 30,000 Japanese Yen (as of 2012)
as the screening fee when applying JAIST. Follow the
regulation of JAIST for the payment method.
SIIT shall put together all the above application documents and submit them to
JAIST along with the list of the students participating in this program.
22. What do students get? (SIIT)
Students can be provided with the amount equivalent to
the matriculation fee as SIIT dual graduate education
program scholarship.
Students can be provided with the amount equivalent to
the tuition fee for the four years of studying at SIIT as
SIIT dual graduate education program scholarship.
SIIT will not support the screening fee of the students.
Even if the students fail to be awarded doctoral degree
from SIIT at the end of the fourth year and wish to
maintain the studentship of SIIT after that, SIIT does not
provide them any financial support.
23. What do students get? (JAIST)
Students can be provided with the amount equivalent to the
entrance fee as JAIST dual graduate education program
scholarship.
Students can be provided with the amount equivalent to the
tuition for the second year and fourth year at JAIST as JAIST dual
graduate education program scholarship.
JAIST waives the tuition fee for the third year of this program.
Students recommended by their supervisors can be provided
with a salary of part-time Research and/or Teaching
Assistantships (around 100,000 Japanese yen per month).
JAIST will not support the screening fee of the students.
In case that the students fail to be awarded doctoral degree from
JAIST at the end of the fourth year and wish to maintain the
studentship of JAIST after that, JAIST does not provide them any
financial support.
