We named the civic studio as f.Labo. The ‘f’ stands for various meanings like this. For
instance, to learn something, making failures are very important. That’s why there are here.
2. WE ARE HERE!
2
Our city, Ogaki, is where Japan’s first two Mini Maker Faire were held. f.Labo is on the ground
floor of an incubation center in the area.

Digital Fabrication Tools at f.Labo
3
These are our tools. To let people use digital fabrication tools, we designed introductory
workshops to teach how to prepare data and operate machines.
4. 4
But we found that there is a gap between ‘do as told’ and ‘have a good command’. That’s
why we designed over 20 workshops as a stamp board.

This is an example. Started with drawing patterns and scanning, painted colors on an acrylic
board, fabricated with a laser cutter. In the end, they got colorful buttons like this.
6. 6
This is another example. Started with taking pictures of human letters, painted of a tablet,
fabricated with a laser cutter. In the end, they got human shaped accessories.
7. 7
This is a little bit different. Started with drawing, made data with Illustrator, fabricated with a
laser cutter. In the end, they got goods for lunch boxes.
8. 8
One more example. Started with scanning with 123D Catch, edited, and printed with 3D
printers. In the end, they got caps with faces for PET bottles.

budoukai =

In addition, we held the first Tenkaizu Budoukai in the end of last year. The cup is named
after Dragon Ball. Tenkaizu means illustrated parts breakdown, and budoukai means martial
arts cup.

We exhibited at an exhibition. Visitors voted and made honorable recognition of winners.
12. November 2013?
12
We’d like to hold the 2nd Tenkaizu Budoukai, as a world wide cup, in November as a part of
Maker Faire Tokyo (proposing). If you are interested in challenging, please let me know.
Thank you very much!
