Wedding Invitation Wording Examples -a Bit Off
From Traditional
The couple has a limited budget but both the bride and
groom have large, extended families with a lot of
friends. They would like to invite everyone to the
ceremony but don’t think they can afford to invite
everyone to the reception.
What should they do? What kind of wedding
invitation wording can pull this off?
1. The f irst option is to leave of f any mention of a
reception f ollowing the ceremony and send separate
reception cards only to those who are being invited.
The problem there is, people will talk af ter the event
and those not invited will more than likely get word of
there being a reception that they weren’t invited to.
That could cause some real problems later on.
2. The second scenario calls f or limiting the ceremony invitations to only those who would also be invited
to the reception. That would actually be the more polite thing to do.
3. And lastly, which is actually the best option and would make everyone happy, is to plan the wedding
ceremony f or later in the evening and instead of serving an all-out dinner f or the reception, simply plan
f or light hors d’oeuvres or f inger f oods with the dessert being your wedding cake.
2. Also, limit the bar to one or two wines and one or two beers on tap. Since the f ood and bar tab are the
most expensive items on the reception costs, keeping these in check makes the reception more
af f ordable so that everyone who is attending the ceremony will also be invited to the reception.
The more inf ormal and casual the reception, the lower the costs, and the more exciting and f un the
entire event will be because everyone will able to attend the reception af ter the ceremony.

Some couples want to send custom or personalized invitations to the bridal party instead of
sending them the same invitation that all of the other guests will be receiving.
So would you use more personalized wedding invitation wording for the bridal party?
In this situation, you send the same invitations with the same wording to the bridal party that you’re
sending to the rest of the guests.
In f act, it will be a lot easier f or you and the printer, even if you’re making your own invitations, that all of
the invitations are the same.
To personalize the invitations a little just f or the bridal party, you can include a small, personalized note
inside letting them know how much you appreciate you them being such a special part of the happiest
day in your lif e.

How do you word a wedding invitation if the ceremony and reception
3. are at the same place but the reception is going to be a couple of
hours later after the ceremony?
Think of your guests too when planning your wedding. You don’t want to
inconvenience the same people who are taking time out of their day to
attend.
Usually when a wedding and reception are being held at the same location,
you would word the invitation that the reception is immediately f ollowing at
[place of ceremony].
Sometimes the reception is at the same location as the ceremony but not
immediately af ter. For example, the bridal party, immediate f amily members
and the photographers might leave the ceremony site to take pictures and
then come back.
In this case, you can mention that the reception will start immediately af ter the ceremony and the bridal
party will be arriving at a later time.
