Super Sessions
SS1010 - Cloud Transforms IT. Trust Transforms Cloud. Big Data Transforms Business.
Tuesday Aug 28 (2:00 PM – 3:00 PM)
Cloud computing is transforming IT. The way IT deploys infrastructure, provisions resources, builds applications, and provides access to these
applications is changing dramatically, promising both greater efficiency and agility. At the same time, many businesses now see data volumes
growing so large they break traditional infrastructures – this is what EMC calls Big Data. Managing Big Data represents a huge challenge for
IT, but using analytics to provide insight into Big Data promises to transform business, delivering competitive advantage and breakthrough
business value. Cloud computing and Big Data will only be viable if they are underpinned by a foundation of trust – trust that the
infrastructure will be available 24x7 and trust that data will not be compromised by the latest advanced threats. Join EMC as we address the
changes necessary to move to a new model – one which requires IT to transform to an internal service provider, shifting focus from
infrastructure cost to business agility. We will discuss EMC’s technology direction and roadmap, our comprehensive integrations with
VMware, and customer experiences who have transformed IT and their business.
Jeremy Burton - EVP of Product Operations and Marketing, EMC Corporation

SPO3337 - Transform Your Mission-Critical Applications on EMC and VMware
Monday Aug 27 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
A vital step towards delivering IT as a Service (ITaaS) is virtualizing mission-critical applications to gain unprecedented efficiency, application
availability, business agility, and time to market. Enterprises need to decide whether to virtualize their mission-critical applications and
supporting IT infrastructures while upgrading and migrating to newer releases, such as Oracle 11g, SQL Server 2012, SAP LVM, and SAP
HANA – and also completely new data and application models using technologies such as Hadoop. Come to this session to learn how Oracle
Databases can be successfully consolidated onto cloud environments while managing system resources to maintain SLAs and increase
performance of your Oracle environment. Understand where you can benefit the most by leaving the legacy RDBMS model behind – and
using next-generation technologies. Understand how to confidently transform your SAP environment and accelerate your application
deployments. Together, EMC, Cisco, and VMware are taking a leadership role within the SAP community to deliver certified SAP Landscape
Virtualization Manager and SAP HANA solutions to ensure that customers receive the scalability, high availability, disaster tolerance, and

Applications
APP-BCA1270 - Virtualizing Oracle Database from Big Iron with Near-zero Downtime
Monday Aug 27 (5:30 PM - 6:30 PM)
Almost all IT shops have Oracle databases which are running on legacy RISC / UNIX platforms, such as Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and IBM AIX. Many
of these customers desperately want to migrate these databases off of UNIX and onto x86 / Linux under vSphere. The reason is cost:
Running Oracle on UNIX is extremely expensive. Running Oracle under x86 / Linux on VMware vSphere is far less costly. The barrier to
migration is endianness. Since Oracle 10g, the internal Oracle datafile structure has been completely cross-platform, with one exception:
Endianness. Endianness refers to the order in which data is stored within the platform’s CPU. Most UNIX platforms are big endian and all x86
platforms, including VMware vSphere, are little endian. Thus, Oracle datafiles must be converted when they are transferred from UNIX to
x86 / vSphere. The real challenge is doing this with minimal, if any, downtime. Many of these databases are mission-critical and cannot
withstand significant downtime. Unfortunately, the built-in VMware platform migration tools (such as VMware vCenter Converter) only work
on the x86 platform as the source platform. For this reason, other tools must be used to migrate the database onto vSphere. This session
will cover detailed procedures and relative tradeoffs of the various choices for making this transition in as close to real-time as humanly
possible. In other words, various options exist for cross-platform migration of Oracle databases from RISC / UNIX onto vSphere, and each of
these will be discussed and compared in detail.

APP-CAP3080 - Cloud Ready Front Office – How EMC is Working with VMware and NYSE Technologies to Put Trading Services in the Cloud
Thursday Aug 30 (1:30 PM - 2:30 PM)
Business requirements for most trading businesses are mature and well understood. However, due to the historical nature of trading
systems evolution (with development teams silo’d by trading desk, and with new groups entering via mergers and acquisition), application
services are fragmented and overly complex. Many Financial Services technology practitioners argue that a trading floor cannot exist in the
cloud. However, with economic factors driving trading volumes down to levels seen 10 years ago, fees have dipped accordingly, and current
technology infrastructure cost are unsustainable. It’s time to take a second look. There are clear benefits for modernizing trading
services. Consolidated, shared services and information models reduce cost and complexity, and enable more nimble response to the
avalanche of regulatory reporting requirements. Cloud-enabled trading services will take advantage of scale up/ scale down capacity and
lowest cost location. EMCC is working with VMware and NYSE Technologies to craft our Cloud Ready Front Office offering, built on
Nanotrader, VMware’s technical architecture for cloud-enabled trading services. This session outlines modernizing a trading firm’s
application portfolio.

INF-SEC2306 - Automated IT Infrastructure Management and GRC Technologies
Monday, Aug 27 (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) and Wednesday, Aug 29 (8:30 AM - 9:30 AM)
This session will outline the integration of IT Infrastructure Management solutions from VMware, EMC, and Governance Risk and
Compliance (GRC) Technologies from RSA. Many organizations today struggle with exactly how to leverage the benefits of cloud computing
without sacrificing security, control, or compliance. Due to siloed structures or a lack of standardized GRC processes, some IT departments
lack visibility, are relegated to manual efforts, and lack a centralized audit function. The abstraction layers introduced by virtualization make
configuration management and compliance validation even more difficult. The presenters will conduct a detailed demonstration of the out-
of-the-box integration among VMware, RSA, and EMC technologies, showing the full lifecycle from policy creation, through scanning critical
IT assets automatically, and reporting results via a dashboard.
