2. he theme for this year’s FBISD 2013
Educational Technology Conference could not
be more appropriate. “Leading & Learning
with Technology: Mission Possible” is not only
a catchy slogan, but must be a way of life for
our educators and our students in the 21st
Century. In its fourth year, the Technology
Conference plays a key role in helping
educators at all levels increase their
understanding of the function of technology in
education. The conference provides us the
opportunity to learn about the latest in
educational technology and offers a forum for
discussion on a variety of technology-related
topics.
Once again, this year’s conference will have engaging and informative sessions,
dynamic speakers and presenters, and commercial exhibits featuring state-of-the-art
technology. I want to thank our Educational Technology Department for planning this
exciting day of learning for us, and I encourage and challenge you to bring the
excitement and new ideas back to your jobs, campuses and classrooms for the 2013-
2014 school year. Enjoy the conference!
Charles E. Dupre
Superintendent of Schools
3. n behalf of Fort Bend Independent School
District's Educational Technology Department, I
am pleased and honored to welcome you to the
4th Annual Educational Technology Conference.
Technology is an instrumental part of our district's
instruction because of its ability to promote
higher order thinking and problem solving skills,
impact student achievement in content area
learning, and prepare students for a global
tomorrow. The goal of this year's conference is to
promote the attainment of 21st Century Learning
Skills and improve student achievement through
technology integration. By providing teachers,
administrators, and central office staff with
exceptional staff development, this goal can be
achieved!
The reality of teaching and learning in today’s society has become such that in order to
capture and engage the minds of our students, we must create a learning experience that is
robust and thriving. Currently, the Curriculum Department, in collaboration with the
Educational Technology Department, is diligently working on a united front to all campuses
with top notch lessons and activities that will enable our students to be competitive in post
secondary education, the workforce, and beyond. It is the district’s goal to ensure that as
students matriculate through Fort Bend Independent School District campuses, they receive
a solid curricular foundation that ensures the attainment of 21st Century Learning Skills.
Fort Bend Independent School District has outlined the following vision: “FBISD - a teaching
and learning community with engaging and empowering experiences that prepare students
to be active, creative, knowledgeable, and ethical participants in our globally networked
society.” The needs of today’s student require a global learning paradigm that will create a
student that is a conscientious thinker and takes ownership in their learning experience.
FBISD campuses and classrooms are equipped with technological resources and tools that
will enable each teacher to facilitate curricular goal attainment via technology integration.
It is our commitment to technology integration that has created a culture of continuous
professional development related to technology integration. Again, we welcome you to
FBISD's 4th Annual Educational Technology Conference. Enjoy yourself, network, and
connect!
Sincerely,
Robert Calvert
