Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi was a 13th century Persian poet and Sufi mystic born in Afghanistan who spent most of his life in Konya, Turkey. He is best known for his six volume poetic work the Masnavi, composed in Persian, and for founding the Mevlevi order of Sufism. The Masnavi is considered one of the greatest poems of mystical literature. Rumi encouraged tolerance and understanding between religions and cultures. His teachings promoted love, harmony, and understanding. He is still widely read today and remembered for his message of unity, love, and compassion.

7. Mevlana’s Ideas
Death is a reunion with the beloved for
Mevlâna. In a gazel, he comments on
death as follows
(Hz.Mevlânâ için ölüm, sevgiliye
kavuşmaktır. Bir gazelinde ölüm
hakkında şöyle der: )
8. Mevlana’s Ideas
Don’t think that I have cared about this world, when I am
dead and my coffin is being carried…
Don’t cry for me, don’t say alas!
If you get caught in the Devil’s trap, that is the time for
bewailing.
Öldüğüm gün tabutum götürülürken, bende bu dünya derdi
var sanma...
Benim için ağlama, yazık, vah vah deme;
Şeytanın tuzağına düşersen, o zaman eyvah demenin
sırasıdır işte.
9. Mevlana’s Ideas
In Volume V of Mesnevî, he says:
Religion is like a candle, it guides us in our way; you
cannot walk further without a candle. When you walk further
in this road, this movement, this walk is the order (tarikat).
When you reach the destination, it is the truth (hakîkat)…
Religion is knowledge, order is the mission and obeying;
and the truth is reaching God.
kulluk; hakîkatse, Allah’ a ulaşmaktır
10. Mevlana’s Ideas
He accepts every single fact of life. He rejects laziness
and seclusion. According to him, the world is becoming
careless about God, not the usual facts of life.
O, hayatın bütün gerçeklerini kabûl eder. Miskinliği,
hayattan el-etek çekmeyi reddeder. Ona göre dünyâ,
Allah’tan gâfil olmaktır, hayâtın gerçekleri değil...
In Mevlânâ’s mysticism, the meaning of existence,
creation and life is love.
Hz.Mevlânâ’nın tasavvufunda varlığın, yaratılışın, hayatın
mânâsı aşktır.
11. Mevlana’s Ideas
According to Mevlânâ, human being consists of emotions
and ideas. In a poem, he says:
O brother! You are composed of feeling and thinking only,
The rest of you is just meat and bone.
12. Mevlana’s Poems
Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving — it doesn't matter,
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vow a hundred times,
Come, come again, come.
Gel, gel, ne olursan ol yine gel,
İster kafir, ister mecusi,
İster puta tapan ol yine gel,
Bizim dergahımız, ümitsizlik dergahı değildir,
Yüz kere tövbeni bozmuş olsan da yine gel...
13. Mevlana’s Poems
Duydum ki bizi bırakmaya azmediyorsun, etme.
Başka bir yar, başka bir dosta meylediyorsun, etme.
I have heard, you have intend to leave us, don’t do
You have been looking for another one, another beloved-one,
don’t do
Sen yadeller dünyasında ne arıyorsun yabancı?
Hangi hasta gönüllüyü kastediyorsun, etme.
O foreign! What are you looking for in noone’s world.
Which sick hearted one do you mean , don’t do.
Çalma bizi, bizden bizi, gitme o ellere doğru
Çalınmış başkalarına nazar ediyorsun, etme.
Don’t steal us, us from us, don’t go that way
You are looking at the stolen ones, don’t do
14. Mevlana’s Poems
Brother, don’t visit my tomb without a tambourine in your
hand; because it is not appropriate to look grieving in the
company of God
God created me from the wine of love. Even though I die
and decay, I am still that love
Kardeş, mezârıma defsiz gelme; çünkü Allah meclîsinde
gamlı durmak yaraşmaz.
Hak Teâlâ beni aşk şarabından yaratmıştır. Ölsem, çürüsem
bile ben yine o aşkım.
