How To Download Books On Mp3
1.
2. The link to the Overdrive site is the blue icon on the bottom left. http://www.mccooklibrary.info
3. Search for a book You can sign in now or when you check out a book. On the left is a listing of types of books. Click on one and go surfing. You can search for a particular book/series/title/author. I like the Harry Bosch Series so I keyed that in and clicked “Find”.
4. This shows two of the Harry Bosch series & note that you can play them on a PC, burn to a CD and is a Windows Media type file, not MP3. You can also “add to cart, add to wish list or place on hold” (place on hold mean it is already checked out. I selected “add to cart”.
5. This screen show what you have in your book cart. So you can either “ Continue Browsing or Proceed to Checkout”. I checked out.
6. If you did not sign in before it will ask you to do so here. Click on the down arrow to the right of the library names and select McCook. (McCook was not listed when I made this PPT) Then key in your McCook library card number and click on “Sigh In”.
7. Please read the information on the screen and if this is what you want click on “Confirm check out”.
8. Download Overdrive software If this is the first time to use Overdrive you will need to download their software. Click on the blue underlined text to get the software.
9. Read through the information on this page. If your computer has what you need click on the link to download the software.
10. Read through the info on this page then select the type of computer you have, Mac or Windows, now click on the download button icon and start process. When that is done you can go back to the page to download the book.
12. This gray window will now open and you want to click on the “Ok” button. Leave the “open with” checked as you see it here.
13. The white window is Overdrive on your computer. The Get Media gray window will show you where the book files are going to be stored on your computer. You need to click on “Ok” to initiate the download.
14. The gray “Download” window opens up showing you there are 11 parts to this book, the file size and the run duration time. The more parts the longer the download time. Make sure all parts have a check mark to the left. Now click on “Ok”.
15. The dark area a the top of the window is the current book being downloaded. The other books are the ones I had on my computer. The 94% at the bottom right tells you that one portion of the 11 parts is 94% downloaded. This will happen with each of the 11 parts.
16. At the bottom left of this window it indicates that part 6 is being downloaded. To the bottom right it lets you know it is 6% complete. Again, this will need to happen for each of the 11 parts of this book.
17. This is what you will see when all parts of the book have been downloaded. Look to the right side of the book titles. You will note that there is an “Acquired Date” and “Expires” date. One week is all the time you can have it on your computer but it can stay on your player as long as it takes to finish.
18. Delete expired books Here I’ve highlighted the three books that have expired and I’m going to delete them by right clicking and selecting delete. Or can you simply click on the red X in the top tool bar.
19. Here’s what my screen looks like after I deleted all the expired books you saw on the previous screen. Now I’m are ready to transfer the new book to my player. Note the expiration date on this Bosch book, it too has expired so the following screen is what I got when I tried to open it in the Overdrive Media Console.
20. I will not be able to open this expired book so all I can do is delete it. I waited too long to transfer it to my player. Now I'll have to go find another book on line and download it then transfer it to my player before it expires.
21. Transfer book to player Note that I have downloaded another Harry Bosch book so now it’s ready to start transferring to my Opal (RCA) player. I could also burn it to a series of CD’s but I would rather have it on my Opal player. Click on the Transfer icon in the top tool bar to start the transfer process.
22. The gray Overdrive Media Transfer Wizard window will open and all that needs to be done is click on “Next >”.
23. This is the next widow seen. Note Title, Player and Parts: This Bosch book has 13 parts, make sure they are all checked. It also shows the file Size, Duration in Minutes and path where the wizard is transferring the 13 files to on your player. Click on “Next >”.
24. This gray window shows that part 7 is transferring to the player It estimates it will take about 1:55 minutes to finish.
25. All 13 parts have been transferred to my Opal player so all I need to do now is click on “Finish”.
26. Now all parts of the audio book are on the player. Just exit out of this window. Disconnect the player from the computer. You might want to make sure the player is fully charged before doing so. On my player, once I disconnect it from my computer I need to remember to turn it off. My player stays on after the transfer so if I don’t turn it off it keeps running and discharges my battery.
