Media technology has significantly impacted the music industry in several ways. It has changed how music is owned, produced, marketed, distributed and accessed by fans. Ownership has consolidated as major labels buy out smaller producers. Production has largely moved to digital formats like MP3s. Marketing now focuses more on online downloads than physical copies. Distribution is primarily through online stores rather than physical retailers. Fans now stream and download music instead of buying CDs or attending live shows. These changes have benefitted the industry through new revenue streams but also caused losses through piracy.
