Land Rover newsletter
during what has proved to
be an unseasonably warm
start to 2014.
We have employed an additional technician in our
busy workshop bringing the technical team to nine
and an established face has re-joined our Parts
Department after a brief interlude.
Not so many years ago, Land Rover dealers would
be more than a little concerned if the winter months
did not yield much in the way of snow and ice.
Today, however, Land Rover's range of vehicles is so
large and diverse that there is a car for every season,
condition and climate. The wider model range has
led to increased sales and this is why, in 2013, (our
60th Anniversary Year), we sold more cars than ever
before - a total of 780 new and pre-owned vehicles.
Our commitment this year is to stock even more
used Land Rover models. We have amongst the
largest stock of any UK dealer and have recently
expanded the size of our vehicle display area to
accommodate even more cars to choose from.
As always, Land Rover are offering competitive
finance packages on all models across the range.
We also have our own bespoke, pre-owned, vehicle
funding packages available in addition to some
extremely competitive Service Plan offers that
guarantee your basic service costs against inflation
for up to five years. These plans allow you to spread
your servicing costs by monthly direct debit just like
your other 'utility' payments. And remember, with
the amount of used cars we have committed to
sell this year, we are desperate for Land Rover and
Range Rover stock, so our sales team are sure to
want to buy your car!
2014 brings fresh challenges and further
developments within the business. For the first time
in a while Land Rover will not be launching a new
or significantly updated model until 2015 apart
from the new Hybrid Range Rover and Range Rover
Sport models later this year for which we have been
preparing the teams with training and tooling in the
workshop. We have also just achieved second place
in Land Rover's 'Dealer of the Year' awards scheme,
So, nobody is resting on their laurels.

OTIS McKEN
Sales Specialists
Otis recently joined us and brings a wealth of retail and customer
service experience to his role having previously worked with the
Furniture Village retail chain as a sales manager. He has also worked
for other similar retailers, including 'World of Leather' and has more
than 16 years experience in this particular sector. Sadly for Otis, a
bad car accident brought an end to this particular career and he
had to look for a more local job that would end his long commutes
to Nottingham and Leeds. He began his new career in car sales with
Honda in Sheffield until this opportunity at Land Rover presented itself.
Otis says: The Land Rover product is simply fantastic. Absolutely world
class. It is a pleasure to work with the brand and to sell a marque that
people are so passionate about."
PAUL CULLEY
Senior Parts Advisor
Paul likes it here at Gordon Lamb so much, that once
he left, he just had to come back! Paul has worked
for Gordon Lamb for many years and has spent over
6 years with us at Land Rover and a further 3 with
our Renault and Nissan parts departments. However,
less than a year ago he ventured into a new job at
another retailer, but quickly changed his mind and
returned to the fold earlier this year. Paul says: "My
job at Gordon Lamb offers a far better work - life
balance and allows me to enjoy other aspects of
life - particularly my passion for martial arts". Paul
has been involved in martial arts since the age of
6 and is an expert in Kung Fu, with over 13 years
experience 'under his belt' so to speak. He trains 6
days a week, so there's not much he doesn't know
about the 'dark arts' - or indeed... Land Rover parts!
JAMES TOYNE
Sales Specialists
James is a recent addition to our Land Rover sales team. James
is an avid Land Rover fan and has spent the last two years trotting
around the globe in his Land Rover Defender. It's a good job that
he is a dab hand with a spanner too, as his trip took him through 28
countries all the way to Australia. It took him 12 months to get there
and once there, he spent 12 months working as a used car buyer
before returning and joining us here at Gordon Lamb. Aside from his
antipodean spell in the industry, this is James' first job in car sales and
he's really enjoying the challenge. And with a previous background in
general retail and a good knowledge of vehicle mechanics, he is well
placed to make a great career out of this new opportunity.

9. 1. Chatsworth House
One of the finest stately homes in the country is right on our door
step, near Bakewell in Derbyshire. Home to the Duke and Duchess of
Devonshire the house has 30 rooms to explore and is surrounded by
miles of beautiful walks, a sculpture park, landscaped gardens and the
UK’s largest gravity fed fountain.

Take a walk around Burbage Moor in Derbyshire. There is no finer walk.
The village of Hathersage with it’s excellent pubs is just beneath you
and the wonderful Padley Gorge nearby, so you can combine all three
for the perfect stroll whatever the weather.

At Ladybower you are surrounded by walks and history. Derwent dam
a mile further north was the training area for the Dambusters, whilst
Ladybower itself was once home to Ashopton Village, now buried
beneath the water.

Bakewell is a great day out for shoppers and walkers. The popular
Monday stall market is complemented by the town’s farmer’s market,
which is the second largest in the UK and held on the last Saturday of
the month. Combine a fine shopping experience with great walks in
the area and a well earned ‘Bakewell Tart’ from the famous Bakewell
Pudding Shop.

Mam Tor stands like a guardian over Castleton. Named the shaky
mountain due to its geological instability, it is home to an abandoned
broken road and some of the finest views in the Peaks. At 1,695ft it
provides a great workout remedy for couch potatoes. Get to the top
of Mam Tor and you will surely have earned some sustenance in the
pubs and restaurants which lie waiting for your return below.

10. Range Rover Sport Named
Top SUV at 2014
What Car? Awards
We are very happy here at Gordon Lamb to announce that the all-new
Range Rover Sport has been voted the UK's number one SUV in the large
SUV category by the judges at What Car?
The jurours picked the 3.0-litre SDV6 HSE model as their favourite, rating
it ahead of Mazda's CX-5 2.2 Skyactiv-D 150 SE-L and the BMW X3
xDrive20d SE auto. The latter car has won the award for the past two years.
The expert jury praised the Range Rover Sport's high level of standard
equipment, which includes keyless entry, reversing camera, electrically
adjustable steering wheel and heated rear seats. They also described it
as wonderfully hushed compared with competitors, adding that the
ride was smoother.
Chas Hallett, editor-in-chief of What Car? commented: The Range
Rover Sport is a fantastic car to cover long distances in, with a gorgeous
cabin and lots of luxury equipment.

As part of the group’s green policy, we have fitted

This new Special Edition model is available in Causeway Grey. It also features

19. Adaptive Cruise Control†
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is a system that helps maintain a pre-set gap
from the vehicle in front, even if it changes speed. Queue Assist extends the
ACC functionality. It is designed to allow the vehicle to come to a stop when it
reaches a traffic queue.
Blind Spot Monitor†
Using sensors mounted on the sides and the rear bumper, these systems
are designed to see what you might miss. When a vehicle enters a blind
spot, a warning light will show in the corresponding door mirror. Closing
Vehicle Sensing scans a zone much further behind the vehicle, to help detect
vehicles which are closing quickly from behind, and which could cause a
threat during a lane change manoeuvre.

Using sensors, Parallel Park identifies parking spaces and helps you parallel
park in tight spots. The screen prompts you to select reverse and then
automatically steers you into place. You stay in control using the brake and
graphics guide you though each manoeuvre.
Reverse Traffic Detection
Using radar detectors in the rear of the vehicle the system is designed to warn
you about potential collisions during reversing manoeuvres. The system can
help detect a vehicle approaching from either side. When a target vehicle with
a credible ‘time to collision’ is detected (a collision within three seconds or
less), the system alerts the driver.

Wade Sensing†
The wade sensing feature assists the driver when crossing streams, fords and
flooded roads, by using sensors in the wing mirrors and alerting the driver
if the water is too deep. This feature provides real-time pictorial wading
information, including the depth of the water in relation to the vehicle, as
well as maximum wading capability of the vehicle via the Touch-screen.

range rover sport hybrids
The HYBRIDs are COMING later this year!
Here at Gordon Lamb, we have been busy preparing for the arrival
of Land Rover's new Hybrid models. Specialist technical training and
significant investment in new workshop tooling has been made to enable
us to integrate these two new models into the range. The Range Rover
Hybrid and Range Rover Sport Hybrid – which will deliver outstanding
fuel economy, significantly lower CO2 emissions and retain Land Rover’s
renowned capability and performance.
The new Range Rover Hybrid powertrain features three driver-selectable
modes and combines Land Rover’s popular 3-litre SDV6 diesel engine
with a 35kW electric motor integrated with the 8-speed ZF automatic
transmission. The hybrid system, including lithium ion battery pack,
inverter and electric motor weighs less than 120kg.
The electric motor produces 170Nm torque to boost acceleration and
drives the vehicle in EV Mode. The motor also acts as a generator,
harvesting kinetic energy through regenerative braking, charging the
battery when the vehicle is slowing. Together, output of the diesel
engine and electric motor is 340hp at 4,000rpm and a class-leading
700Nm torque between 1,500-3,000rpm. Both models accelerate to
62mph in under seven seconds, deliver strong transient and mid-range
performance with a top speed of 135mph, combined with a 26 percent
reduction in CO2 emissions to 169g/km, equivalent to 44.1mpg on the
combined cycle.
