DIRECTOR, LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS — JULY 2014—PRESENT
Primary duties include: Leads, develops, and manages Learning Environments unit
comprised of reference, circulation, roving services, online learning, community
engagement, academic programming, and learning spaces; manages physical space and
provides mechanisms and opportunities for feedback from students, faculty, and library
employees on space development; defines the libraries’ role as a learning environment
and builds continuity between physical and virtual interactions and services; responsible
for Learning Environments budget of $180,000 annually and for a team of 26 employees,
directly supervising nine people.
Current projects include:
• Working with the Associate Dean for Learning and the Assistant Director for Learning
Services to create vision, mission, and outcomes for the new Learning Division of the
University Libraries
• Building processes, guidelines, and policies for Learning Environments

• Leading the Learning Environments leadership group to evolve circulation, reference,

Primary duties included: Led and supported numerous learning, outreach, and
engagement initiatives; operationalized the vision developed within the unit through
collaborations across campus and via inter-departmental teams; supervised 6 FTE, as well
as part time, wage, and student employees.
Accomplishments included:
• Built, managed, and led a new Outreach Team including a Communications Coordinator,
Graphics Coordinator and Visual Literacy Instructor, Graphics Support Specialist,
Webmaster, and Videographer
• Initiated, designed, and facilitated “Aspirational Identity Lunches,” created to help library
employees internalize the new aspirational identity of the University Libraries
• Participated in developing custom online and physical learning environments for faculty
across a number of disciplines; mapped the libraries’ approach to developing learning
environments in the future
• Examined new literacies, pedagogies, and learning models for potential new services
• Participated in renovation meetings for second floor commons area and first floor
multipurpose room construction

Primary duties included: Led library instruction program; planned and managed
professional development for library employees who taught; administered LIB100/200
program; led efforts to assess and provide quality control for library courses; promoted
academic benefit of courses to larger university community; represented library instruction
to various audiences; and served as library representative on teaching-related committees
including the Teaching and Learning Center advisory board; supervised 2 FTE instruction
positions including Senior Lecturer, eLearning Librarian, and an Adjunct Instructor. Also
provided reference services and managed monograph budget and as served as liaison to
Philosophy, the Women and Gender Studies departments, and the Teaching and Learning
Center. Responsible for all library instruction including credit-bearing courses, one-shot
library sessions, and online tutorials.
Accomplishments included:
• Developed and taught the first online undergraduate class at Wake Forest University
• Provided strategic leadership and direction for the planning, development, and
management of the library’s instruction program
• Led committee to produce values statement for the Z. Smith Reynolds Library
• Led strategic planning initiative for library instruction and academic technologies
• Led team to develop an open access electronic information literacy textbook
• Led and coordinated effort to produce community-driven learning outcomes

• Redesigned instruction web presence to include resources for Z. Smith Reynolds
Librarians as well as instruction librarians in the field

Primary duties included: Introduced instructional design on campus as the sole
instructional designer; forecasted emerging technology scenarios and adapted library
services as needed; developed, contributed to, and provided services through technology
pilots; provided regular reference services; liaised between technology and reference
units in the library; managed monograph budget and liaised with Women’s and Gender
Studies, Philosophy, Teaching and Learning Center, and ebook readers.
Accomplishments included:
• Co-authored ACRL 2011 Libraries of Excellence award nomination for the Z. Smith
Reynolds Library
• Served on University’s Strategic Planning Committee for Innovation in Technology and
Information and authored large sections of final report
• Introduced Instructional Design as a process to the campus community, advocated for
additional staff support for this work, worked closely with the Director of the Teaching
and Learning Center to select the appropriate person for the role, and worked closely
with him to learn campus culture and establish the Teaching and Learning Center as the
place to get Instructional Design support
• Directly contributed to campus discussions about online education and worked with
Provost’s and Dean’s offices during early discussions about Wake Forest University’s first
online degree program
• Beta tested and interpreted data from Counting Opinions’ campus-wide library survey
and produced summary report
• Identified tools and participated in founding task forces for LibGuides, Google Voice,
Library H3lp, and QR Code implementation
• Created, proposed, and implemented the library’s social media strategic plan with

Primary duties included: Directly supported faculty, staff, students, and public in accessing
microtext collection; developed procedures and recommended policies for internal
departmental operations; copy cataloged incoming North Carolina and federal
government documents; led and managed 20 to 25 student workers each semester. As a
volunteer, co-taught library classes and provided in-person and virtual reference services.

I was the external contributor to the Joyner Library Staff Development Day on Social
Media. I participated in a panel, “Demystifying Social Media in Academic Libraries” with
East Carolina University’s Matt Long, Mary Tucker-McLaughlin, and Beth Winstead. I also
was invited to give a break out session on “What’s Hot: Exploring Social Media Trends,”
introducing and describing the potential impact of various social networking sites from
Pintrest to Reddit to Goodreads.

I was invited to conduct a one-day workshop on instructional design and teaching for
