This presentation provides an overview of e-participation opportunities within the American Library Association (ALA). It begins with background on ALA's history from 1853 to today. It then discusses reasons for hope, including ALA legislation, the LITA BIGWIG program, virtual ACRL conferences, and online library communities. Finally, it reviews various tools for e-participation, such as blogs, wikis, Google Docs, Twitter, FriendFeed, Meebo chat, CoverItLive, UStream, and hashtags. The goal is to showcase how libraries can better participate and communicate through electronic means.
