2. Did you know there are choices when it comes to
which braces an orthodontist can use to straighten
your teeth? And did you know that not all braces are
the same?
Before discussing with your orthodontist which
braces are right for you, it helps to know what makes
a great smile. Many patients think that a great smile
is just straight teeth, but you’ll soon discover it is so
much more.
3. Broad Smile with No “Dark Triangles”
Full smiles display more teeth and have
minimal dark space at the corners.
Upright Teeth
Teeth should not tip inward or flare
outward. The teeth should sit perfectly
upright within the mouth.
Minimal Gingival Display
An ideal smile shows minimal gingiva
(“gums”).
A smile is often the first thing
people notice. And while you may
think you know a great smile when
you see it, did you know that quite
a number of factors go into making
a perfect, beautiful smile?

a number of factors go into making

Smile Arc
When smiling, the bottom of the upper
teeth should follow a curve that mirrors
the curve of the bottom lip.
Facial Symmetry
The teeth should evenly fill in the
entire area of the smile but shouldn’t
overwhelm your face.
Front & Back Occlusion
A great smile takes into account how all
your teeth fit together for a perfect bite.
When considering all of the
attributes that make a great
smile, it may seem impossible to
achieve with just braces.
But, thanks to the Damon
System, it can be a reality.

5. It’s more than just a bracket.
• Tie-less braces that don’t need to be “tightened” and
are gentle to the teeth and tissues.
• High-technology wires that move teeth quickly and
require fewer adjustments than traditional braces.
• A clinically proven treatment approach that aligns
teeth and enhances facial aesthetics.
6. Damon System braces use a passive slide
mechanism to maintain wires within the
bracket, allowing them to move more freely. This
reduces friction so teeth move quickly and more
comfortably.
Traditional braces use elastics or active clips
that “bind” wires in place.
Elastics and active clips used to hold the wire can act like
parking brakes, resulting in friction and pressure, which
can slow treatment and make it less comfortable.

9. We all know that oral hygiene can be challenging
with a mouth full of braces, but thanks to the Damon
System, hygiene doesn’t have to be difficult.
Traditional braces use elastic ties to hold wires in
place. These ties collect plaque that can cause
adverse gingival conditions. In fact, recent clinical
studies show that elastic ties have higher plaque
buildup with significant gingival bleeding

Unlike traditional braces, the Damon System
eliminates plaque-retentive ties and are easy to
keep clean.

10. With traditional braces, orthodontists are often forced to pull crowded
teeth in order to create space. The Damon System uses biologically
sensible forces that work with the body’s adaptive processes to create
space naturally. In most cases doctors using the Damon System can
treat without extractions.
Consider the following:
• In some cases, tooth extractions can contribute to a flatter facial
profile, especially with age.
• A recent survey by BlueSuitMom.com reports that more than
40% of children have permanent teeth removed as part of traditional
orthodontic treatment.
• Check with your orthodontist to determine if you are a candidate for
non-extraction treatment. In the few cases that require
extractions, space is made to improve facial balance and symmetry.
12. The space between this patient’s front teeth is obvious, but note that many teeth are tipped
inward, resulting in a narrow smile. This patient could be treated with traditional braces or aligners
to make minor corrections or benefit from the Damon System and get more than straight teeth.
Following treatment with the Damon System, this patient benefited from straight teeth as well as a
broader smile and improved facial aesthetics.
13. Please note that while all cases can be treated with the Damon System, your doctor will determine if
you are a candidate for treatment without extractions, surgery or auxiliary appliances.
• No extractions
• No rapid palatal expanders
• No surgery
• No headgear
14. Pro surfer Bethany Hamilton and subject of
the film, Soul Surfer, was treated with the
Damon System and now shares her story of
smiling through adversity all over the world.
“The Damon System transformed
my smile, allowing me to
confidently share my story of
perseverance and encourage
others undergoing adversity.”

16. The results that can be achieved with
orthodontics today are far better than just a
few years ago. We can now create beautiful
smiles more quickly – most often without
extractions or rapid palatal expanders.
Treatment Time: 18 Months, 11 Appointments
17. New research shows that beautiful smiles
are possible without extractions or rapid
palatal expansion. Look how this full broad
smile (achieved with the Damon System)
helped transform this young girl into a
beautiful young woman.
Treatment Time: 18 Months, 11 Appointments
18. Notice the additional facial width, achieved without surgery...
…and a dramatically improved profile.
19. With traditional braces, this case would
have required extractions and/or a rapid
palatal expander. With the Damon
System, she was treated without extractions
or an RPE and achieved a stunning smile
and beautiful facial symmetry.
Treatment Time: 17 Months, 9 Appointments
20. Research shows that a great smile and
improved appearance may enhance a
person’s self-esteem and confidence.
Treatment Time: 16 Months, 8 Appointments
