Summary
27 June 2012 (Denver, Colorado) - Last evening at Now Faith Church in Denver, Colorado, a parishioner who
took issue with material representations of biblical facts was assaulted by three congregants.
The physical assault was ordered by Brian Carnes and church Pastor Leon Emerson. Carnes, sometimes better
known as Prophet Brian Carnes, is a national church speaker who offers his services to churches for a speaking
fee of around $10,000.
During a 26 June 2012 evening service, a local man took issue with various biblical misrepresentations put forth
by Carnes, for the purposes of forcing congregants to give he and Emerson money and stood up to protest.
The man was then dragged into a back room of the church and physically assaulted. The confrontation occurred
in front of hundreds of church congregants who by all appearances, delighted in the assault as evidenced by a
response of cheering.
A man close to the victim and present commented - "I couldn't believe what happened in there." When reached
for comment, the victim said - "They slammed my back into a sharp table corner and then threw me against the
wall. All I did was what they (Carnes and Emerson) said we all should do - preach the gospel."
A well known Pastor who speaks with Carnes indicated that Carnes takes speaking engagements for both
money and to lure young women into inappropriate sexual relationships. Court records show Carnes to be the
father of a child with a woman whom he met at a speaking engagement.
The victim further offered - "These men say they represent Jesus Christ but when did Jesus have anyone beat up
for speaking his words as recorded in the Holy Bible?" An email account for Mr. Carnes was full and not
accepting messages and Mr. Emerson has thus far refused comment on the incident.
