1. WELCOME TO WORLD HISTORY
HONORS!
Getting to know a little bit about the classroom and
Ms. Herzl.
2. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
I was born in NY, later
moved to VT, where I lived
until I came to MA.
This is my six year at
Triton.
I graduated from the
University of Vermont.
I like James Bond movies.
I have a dog named Thor.
3. COURSE EXPECTATIONS
Everyone received a copy of the course
expectations which they should read over carefully
tonight with a parent/guardian. Then have them fill
out the form provided on paper or on the website.
Your grade is broken down as follows:
Assessments (Test & Quizzes) 50%, Projects
20%, Writing 25%, Class Participation 5%.
Your class will receive a lot of materials (aka:
paper) so it is highly recommended that you have a
three ring binder of at least 1” thickness to keep
track of everything and some loose leaf paper or a
notebook to take notes in.
4. DAILY EXPECTATIONS
I expect you to come to class prepared with your
materials (textbook, pen/pencil, and binder)
everyday and ready to learn.
I expect you to work to the best of your abilities
during class time.
I expect you to be respectful of your peers and
teacher – this means not doing anything that would
be disruptive to the classroom learning
environment.
I expect you to be mature and take responsibility for
your actions.
5. 1. Cooperate with and
respect your teacher
and classmates.
2. Respect the rights
and property of others.
3. Carry out your basic
student responsibilities.
4. Follow the rules as
outlined in the student
handbook.
1. Come to class
prepared and ready to
learn.
2. Start your work on time
and allow time to finish.
3. Ask for help when you
need it.
4. Do your own work.
5. Turn your work in on
time.
6. Accept responsibility
for grades and other
consequences.

Responsibilities
6. CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS/ASSIGNMENTS
I write general information
(due dates and upcoming
tests) on the bulletin board. I
also post information about the
current unit we are studying
(and the unit outline) on the
bulletin board.
There is an assignment page
on my wiki where all
assignments will be posted.
7. SIGNING OUT
If you are going to the
bathroom/locker/water
fountain you need to sign
out on the clipboard and
take the pass with you.
When you return please
write the time of your
return and place the pass
back on the hook.
If you need to go to the
nurse you will need a
written pass from me,
not the clipboard.
8. TARDY SLIPS
If you are late to class
you will need to fill out
a slip explaining why
you’re late.
Tardy slips are saved, if
this a repeated
problem they are given
to a principal and
parents are notified.
9. FOOD AND DRINK
THIS IS A NUT FREE ROOM!
You may have food only during snack period (the
beginning of 3rd period). Please be considerate and
clean up your trash.
You may bring a beverage as long as it’s in a re-
sealable bottle (no cans!). If you finish your beverage
please recycle the container.
You may chew gum as long as you don’t stick it on the
desks!
We will always take 2nd lunch.
10. ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Phones, laptops,
netbooks, and tablets are
permitted when being
used for class
activities.
Ipods, gaming devices,
and other electronics are
never allowed.
If I see you using an
electronic device at an
inappropriate time or for
a non-class activity it will
be confiscated and
turned over to the office.
I’m for learning only!

12. EVERYDAY NEEDS
Handouts for the day can
always be found on the
front table.
Markers, glue, and
scissors for in class use
are in the drawers and
available for you to
borrow and use in class.
I expect you to come to
class prepared everyday,
but I do keep some extra
pens and pencils on top
of the markers container.
13. EXTRA COPIES
The extra copies binder is on the front table. If you need
another copy find the binder for your class and what you
need should be available. If not, please see me.
14. THE PIGEON
The pigeon is a joke gift
that is on loan from a
friend.
He is very delicate so
please avoid touching him
and be gentle if you do.
The pigeon does not have
a name. Any
suggestions?
15. OTHER
I’m here everyday at 7AM and several days a week after
school. I’m always happy to provide extra help, so don’t
hesitate to ask. I don’t accept “I don’t understand” as
any excuse for not completing an assignment. If you
don’t understand something ask for help!
You can call or text me at this number if you need extra
help on an assignment: 978-566-9335, this is my
GoogleVoice number and I check it every evening.
You can email me at lherzl@trsd.net for extra help too, I
usually check it at least once in the evenings.
All assignment materials are posted on the wiki:
http://msherzlworldhistory.wikispaces – you can go visit
it tonight if you’d like to see this PowerPoint again!
