The Best and Worst Of 		Child Rearing  A Realistic View of the Techniques of Parenting and establishing a Healthy Environment.   			By:  Laura Hurley  			ABA 607
      What is Child Rearing?  Parenting is the process of creating an environment that  promotes and supports the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Parenting does not refer to just a biological connection, it’s and individual that is raising or helping to raise a child. There are four categories that all parenting falls into based on how much the parent is involved with the child and the demands they place on them.
WHICH ONE ARE YOU? CHILD 	REARING 		STYLES AUTHORITARIAN AUTHORITATIVE PERMISSIVE UNINVOLVED
Authoritative ,[object Object]
Child is encouraged to express their thoughts, feelings and desires
Child is allowed to participate in punishments
Child is allowed to be involved and express their views during  decision making
Parent explains decisions and consequences made concerning child
Parent is attentive and sensitive to child's needs  “Let me explain Why I grounded  You”    “What do you  Think about the Decision to go  To the movies?” “How do you  Think you should  Be punished?”
Effectiveness ,[object Object]
 Children has a higher self-esteem and healthy self image
 Children are better able to control their behavior
