Research Methodology
Teaching grammar explicitly in
secondary schools
• English is an important language around the
world and it is a worldwide used as the lingua
franca.
• English is the way for the people to interact each
other especially who comes from different
countries, culture and social context.
• English in science and mathematic had been
established on 2003 for the sake to improve
English among the students and been abolished
in 2011.
• The stress is on the secondary school since these
students are the one who will further their study
in tertiary education.
Background of Research
• Grammar is important when learning or
teaching English.
• As an English user or learner, learning
grammar is important as well other than the
four skills to be emphasized.
• The teachers are rushing to finish the syllabus
and at the same time, they need to focus on
the tests and examinations as well.
• If a teacher decide to teach the grammar to
the students, they will choose the easiest
grammar to teach
Statement of Problem
• The four important skills be thought
separately which mean will be focusing more
on one skill on that particular day. Besides
that four skills, they are also others
component in English syllabus such as
literature and language art which totally will
not focused on grammar
• Teaching of grammar is still being neglected as
it is thought indirectly although the rules be
stated in textbook.

• Why the teachers neglect the teaching of
grammar in the classroom.
• How to attract students in learning
grammar in the classroom.
• What are the best methods to teach the
grammar in the classroom?

• Teachers:
• 1. Questionnaire A
To gather the background information of
teachers to seek their qualification and their
experience in teaching English.
• 2. Questionnaire B
• To elicit their knowledge in understanding of
teaching grammar and their opinion in helping
them to teach grammar.
Significant of research
• The education department needs to start to
make the changes in curriculum especially in
English because of the rejecting of learning
science and mathematics in English either in
primary or secondary school.
• To allocate more time in teaching in teaching
English at school as to make it more effective
in teaching.
• The medium of interaction in social context.
• Use the grammar in the proper way when
they write the essay or in the conversation
with the correct pronunciation.

Research methodology

  • 1. Research Methodology Teaching grammar explicitly in secondary schools
  • 2. • English is an important language around the world and it is a worldwide used as the lingua franca. • English is the way for the people to interact each other especially who comes from different countries, culture and social context. • English in science and mathematic had been established on 2003 for the sake to improve English among the students and been abolished in 2011. • The stress is on the secondary school since these students are the one who will further their study in tertiary education.
  • 3. Background of Research • Grammar is important when learning or teaching English. • As an English user or learner, learning grammar is important as well other than the four skills to be emphasized. • The teachers are rushing to finish the syllabus and at the same time, they need to focus on the tests and examinations as well. • If a teacher decide to teach the grammar to the students, they will choose the easiest grammar to teach
  • 4. Statement of Problem • The four important skills be thought separately which mean will be focusing more on one skill on that particular day. Besides that four skills, they are also others component in English syllabus such as literature and language art which totally will not focused on grammar • Teaching of grammar is still being neglected as it is thought indirectly although the rules be stated in textbook.
  • 6. Research Questions • The questions of the research are to: • Why the teachers neglect the teaching of grammar in the classroom. • How to attract students in learning grammar in the classroom. • What are the best methods to teach the grammar in the classroom?
  • 7. Research Design • Design : > Survey Research Approaches Mixed Mode Qualitative and Quantitative Design
  • 10. • Teachers: • 1. Questionnaire A To gather the background information of teachers to seek their qualification and their experience in teaching English. • 2. Questionnaire B • To elicit their knowledge in understanding of teaching grammar and their opinion in helping them to teach grammar.

Significant of research • The education department needs to start to make the changes in curriculum especially in English because of the rejecting of learning science and mathematics in English either in primary or secondary school. • To allocate more time in teaching in teaching English at school as to make it more effective in teaching. • The medium of interaction in social context. • Use the grammar in the proper way when they write the essay or in the conversation with the correct pronunciation.
