The Lime Cycle CO 2 CO 2 H 2 O H 2 O Ca(OH) 2 CaCO 3 LIMESTONE CALCIUM CARBONATE QUICKLIME CALCIUM OXIDE HYDRATED LIME CALCIUM HYDROXIDE Limestone is burned in a kiln at around 900 °C  to make quicklime Quicklime is slaked with water to make dry hydrated lime or lime putty Air limes harden by drying and carbonation.  Heat CaO Heat All CO 2  emitted from the calcination of the limestone can be re-absorbed upon full carbonation The CO 2  emitted by the burning of the fuel is not re-absorbed
