As I gaze out my studio window, the river looks like a mirror and images of the shoreline seem painted on the water. All the leaves have fallen to the ground to create a blanket of colors in orange, rust, and golden tones. Fall is here in the northern regions of Wisconsin. Knowing that our grandchildren will soon be visiting, I started thinking of ways to extend the beauty of fall. My creative side began visualizing how I could use my fairy garden accessories to decorate the dining room table.

of the shoreline seem painted on the water. All the leaves have fallen to
the ground to create a blanket of colors in orange, rust, and golden
tones. Fall is here in the northern regions of Wisconsin. Knowing that our
grandchildren will soon be visiting, I started thinking of ways to extend
the beauty of fall. My creative side began visualizing how I could use my
fairy garden accessories to decorate the dining room table. Here are
some of my designs…
3. Using the river as an inspiration, I positioned an antique mirror on the
table and then I placed a circle of red Dogwood twigs in the middle.
Mounds of Reindeer Moss, filled in the cluster of the twigs, softened the
effect, and added an accent color. Now it was time to place a fairy house
as the focus of the design. Fall fairy accessories, which included a
wooden wagon with rustic wheels, burnt orange colored Putka Pumpkins,
a majestic turkey, and miniature plants in tiny pots, added much whimsy
to the decoration. Montford Hen and Chicks, in the tiny pots, added
another layer of the fall color to the tablescape. As a final touch, I
inserted a battery-operated tea light, inside the fairy house, to add a
warm glow in the evening hours.
Home Sweet Home
4. This time I selected the Birch Bark Tea Cup Planters to create a simple,
but attractive decoration for the table. Since repetition is a good design
practice, I lined up five identical teacup planters in the middle of the
table. The teacups, placed on a runner made from burlap, were equally
spaced apart. The contrast between the beige, textured burlap and the
whiteness of the birch bark design created a pleasing effect. Now I
needed to select miniature plants for the teacups. Since the principle of
this decoration is a simple, repetitive design, I searched for five identical
plants. When I saw the Acorus gramineus minimus, Green Dwarf Sweet
Flag in the greenhouse, I knew this miniature plant had the shape I
desired – the leaves were spiky with smooth blades pointing up to the
sky. Now it was time to bring the teacups to the potting shed to add soil
and plant a Green Dwarf Sweet Flag in each cup. In less than an hour, I
had an easy-to-do tablescape or a decoration for the fireplace mantel
using miniature garden accessories.

5. Every miniature gardener needs to plan a tablescape with fairies! As I
was enjoying an end-of-the-year dinner party for the greenhouse, I
glanced at the place card with my name on it. I had another idea for a fall
table decoration using fairy accessories. Start with a four-inch leaf cut out
of a metallic gold cardstock. I would recommend using a die cut machine
to make cutting the leaves a quick and easy task. Place a leaf on the
table, at the top of the place setting, for each dinner guest. Next, cut off
the top of a little orange or white pumpkin and scoop out the seeds. Fill
the inside of the pumpkin with a preserved green moss or dried fairy
moss. Next, place a fairy, shaped in a sitting position, on the pumpkin.
Placing the cap back on top, in a slanted position and securing it with a
toothpick, added a decorative touch. Lastly, position the place card in
front of the miniature gardening creation.
The Gathering of Fairy Friends
6. I see that the sun is starting to come out. It is going to be a beautiful fall
day. Planning miniature garden tablescapes made the morning go by
quickly, but it is now time to work on my perennial bed. If always seems
so sad to pack up my fairy garden, as I know that falling snow is soon
going to sneak upon us. I had a fun time bringing the fall season indoors
and enjoying my garden accessories a little longer.
