This document specifies requirements and approaches for user profiling and contextualization in the LinkedTV project. It explores state-of-the-art methods for user modeling, preference learning, contextualization, and their application in digital media. Based on LinkedTV's needs, it proposes tracking transaction and implicit feedback data, learning profiles with stereotypes, object rankings, and rule mining over ontologies. Context will be determined from user reactions and behaviors. The contextualized user model will combine the stable user profile with dynamic context information to adapt recommendations. Storage and communication of privacy-safeguarded profiles will allow efficient personalized content matching.
