2. Goodwin suggests that lyrics will make constant references to visuals on screen and that the visuals
reinforces what the lyrics say. I thought that this was a important convention for me to include in my music
video in order to convey the meaning behind the song and to emphasize the lyrics and what they mean
through the use of visuals.
In these clips I applied Goodwin’s theory
Lyrics “ I lay in tears in bed all night” these lyrics have a strong
link to the visuals. This highlights what the song is about,
and from both the lyrics and the visuals the audience understand
that she is depressed and is going through a breakup.
Again the lyrics link to the visuals strongly.
Lyrics “I died a little bit inside”. While those
Lyrics are being sung, a shot of my actress
Is shown in the video of her looking into the
Mirror, depressed. This again highlights to the
Audience that she is upset about her breakup.
3. Another key aspect of a music video that Goodwin states is that as an audience we look out
for is that the record label will include the need for several close ups of the artist in order to
introduce the band/artist to the audience.
Within my music video I used several close ups of my artist. This was done deliberately so the audience could establish a
relationship with my artist, and become more familiar with her image. I also did this so that the audience understand
what I’m trying to portraying emotionally, the usage of close-ups allowed me to show facial expressions and give the
audience an insight into how unhappy and depressed my artist was trying to portray through expressions.
Here I applied Goodwin's theory and used a close-up of my artist.
This clip shows her facial expressions, and the audience know how
she is feeling – creating a better relationship between the two.
This clip is the opening and end shot, I decided to use a
close up at these points because it grabs the audiences
attention and its common for music videos to start this
way as it can they flash back to how she has ended up
this way and the story unfolds in the music video.
4. I took inspiration for my music video from the music video “Coldplay - The Scientist”
In the coldplay music video there is a scene
where the bike is going forward and then the
same clip is reversed to make it appear as if the
bike is biking forwards and then biking forwards
while going straight.
I liked this idea, so I took this and
included a similar technique into my
music video.
In these screenshots, I took 1 clip and
copied it creating two. I then “reversed”
the 2nd clip and put them next to each other
on the timeline of the video. The clip now
with using the technique, looked like she was
dropping the photo, and the photo then went up
from the floor into mid air and back into her hand.
I wanted to include this because it fits with my music video and the style I was going for. It makes it look like my
actress keeps looking through all the photos over and over, which is the type of heartbreak, longing feel I wanted to
get across.
5. I also took inspiration from Ed Sheerans
“Give me love” music video. There were
a lot of scenes of the actress I liked and
wanted to include similar shots in mine.
Here you can see I done a similar surrounding and layout as the Ed Sheeran video. I liked this shot because it showed
how alone the actress was and zooming out on the room makes the actress look small and also conveys how she is all by
herself and how alone she is.
Also in the Sheeran music video a lot of
close ups of facial expression and to show
body language were used. I wanted to
include this again because it fitted in with
my style of music video and it highlighted
what the music video was about and
showed how upset she was dealing with
her heart break.
6. I took inspiration from the
“Love the way you lie” music video by
Eminem and Rihanna. As you can see fire
is a on-going theme that runs through my
music video, because it represents love
being dangerous yet powerful.
I also took inspiration from another Ed
sheeran video, “A team” where it has lots
of close up shots of the actress showing
her facial expressions and how upset she is.
I included these types of shots in my video
to get the point across she is upset and
depressed over her past relationship.
7. As you can see from these clips, I took again a lot of inspiration from ed sheeran video “A team”. These clips are very
similar to each other, because I liked the concept of the actress trying to “make herself pretty” by doing her makeup.
I tried to convey this in my video because I wanted the audience to grasp the concept she is trying to make her ex love
her, so she tries to “make herself pretty”.
