About CIFAS
CIFAS is the UK’s Fraud Prevention Service, dedicated to the prevention of financial crime and staff
fraud. A not-for-profit membership association, the client is accessed by more than 260 financial
organisations, primarily from the UK. Member organisations exchange details of applications for
products or services that have failed verification checks and are confirmed to be fraudulent. They
also exchange information about fraudulent insurance claims, and accounts being fraudulently
misused.
When a CIFAS member organisation identifies a fraud, it places a warning against the address or
addresses linked to that application or account. Any member organisation subsequently checking
the marked address sees the warning and then takes extra precaution against it, verifying whether
the address is genuine or not. This also protects the address from further misuse.

We developed a smart, future-proof database system for CIFAS, called the Fraud Investigation
Database (FIND). The system was not only fast but also intuitive and simple to utilise. It offered a
comprehensive set of web service interfaces that could be easily accessed and used by all CIFAS
Members and Agencies. It was scalable in nature as well to meet the future needs of the company.
We also enhanced their existing data systems by allowing access to separate fraud-related data
within the same systems.

Our solution enhanced the security of their highly sensitive data and had a faster response time
compared to their old system. It allowed secured data-sharing by CIFAS members, enabling them
to access information online instantly in real-time, anytime. The new services thus increased the
efficiency with which members could investigate frauds and record new frauds.
