2. Five Marks of a Mature Christian
Welcome to Empowered Bible Study Ministries. This week we are starting a brand new series
on the book of James. In this study you will find that the book of James is one of the most
practical books in the New Testament because it offers instruction and exhortation to Christians
who are experiencing problems, as all of us do. I pray you are blessed by this study.
Studying God’s word is so important and so essential in our Christian walk isn’t it. It gives us
instructions on how to live a Godly life and how to live every moment of every day to the Glory
of God. As we study the Book of James we will grow and mature in our Christian walk.
The book of James breaks down to Five Marks of a Mature Christian:
1. He is patient in testing (James 1)
2. He practices the truth (James 2)
3. He has power over his tongue (James 3)
4. He is a peacemaker, not a troublemaker (James 4)
5. He is prayerful in troubles (James 5)
Did you know that about half of the verses in James contain verbs in the imperative form? Any
time you see an Imperative used in the Greek it means it is a command. This means that these
are not suggestions my friend they are commands instructing us of how to live godly lives. In
fact, you cannot read the book of James without experiencing a strong tug of conviction. James
writes this so that we can grow and mature in our Christian walk.
James will also tell us the pitfalls of failing to place our trust in the Lord, of judging one another,
being prejudice, having improper speech and leaving God out of our plans. How many times do
we do this, right? We can all grow in this area.
As we study the book of James over the next several weeks, come with an open heart willing to
see what the Lord wants you to learn. Let this book impact your life as you mature in your
Christian walk, as you build a stronger personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Next week, we will start chapter one. I look forward to studying God’s word with you as we
unfold what God wants to teach us.
God Bless
