E.Q: Can all beings achieve wisdom?E.Q: Can all beings achieve wisdom?
(EXAMPLE OF ROUGH DRAFT)
Answer the Question in your opinion (1-2 sentences): I believe all beings can achieve wisdom. The character,
Tigger achieves wisdom despite his large ego.
Explain one aspect of the Essential Question (3-4 sentences): Wisdom is gained over time, unlike intelligence
which must be attained genetically, academically, or experientially. Wisdom is gained in many ways, but the
most common way is when a lesson is learned and the person experiencing the lesson is ready to receive it. If
one is not ready to receive wisdom, then it can not be achieved.
Relate your idea to a character in the story (3-4 sentences): In the story, “Tiggers Don’t Climb Trees”,
Tigger gains wisdom about his climbing abilities. Tigger is very confident in his abilities to climb trees, and has
an easy time going up the tree quickly. When he learns he has never climbed down, he slips on a branch and
falls to the ground.
Use a quote to prove this: When he learns he has never climbed down trees before, he slips on a branch and
falls to the ground. “And at the word 'easy', the branch he was standing on broke suddenly and he just
managed to clutch at the one above him as he felt himself going”. Tigger was over confident in his abilities,
and he had to fall on the ground to achieve the wisdom that he can not do everything.
Restate your opinion and add suggestion or observation (1-2 sentences): Even though, Tigger is a somewhat
ditzy, overconfident character, he still learned a lesson. Albeit, it took falling on his head to learn that lesson,
but he will never forget it. At times, when dealing with overconfident people, they are less likely to be open to
advice or new wisdom and often times must ‘fall on their heads’ to gain it.
Describe how you relate (or not) to this character (4-5 sentences): Like Tigger, I have earned my wisdom by ‘falling on my
head”. There have been many times, where I was so into an experience or trying to achieve something, that I didn’t always have
the perfection that most people strive for. I have become very comfortable with non-perfection, but it often disturbs others
around me. Tigger was aggravating his friends and scaring them by bouncing up a tree, and he could've have taken their feelings
into consideration, even though he wasn’t scared of falling. Sometimes, to be sensitive that means stepping outside ourselves
and doing what others want. Tigger and I could both learn to listen to others more, we can achieve more wisdom this way.
