Philosophy of Education 
 
 
  
  It is my  believe that every child has unique talents and abilities waiting to be 
discovered.  As a teacher I will help students to develop their potential by creating an 
atmosphere where they feel safe,  can express their ideas and feel part of a community. 
The classroom should be a reflection of the world outside, and our role as teachers should 
go beyond the basic skills stated in the curriculum.  I will encourage students to solve 
problems similar to those they will encounter outside the school.  I believe that, as a 
teacher,  it is imperative to ensure that the classroom is a safe, supportive and open 
environment where students learn to care for each other,  respect and appreciate  the 
richness of culture diversity.   
  
            My teaching style can be described as one that incorporates hands­on activities and 
technology because I understand that students learn by thinking and doing.  I will let them 
express their understanding using their strength or intelligence.  I will serve as a guide leading 
students to do the discovery, I will create an ambience where question marks are floating 
all around the classroom and curiosity begins to itches the student’s brains.    I will provide 
students with the essential tools to explore and do the discovery rather than acting as the 
primary source of information.   “Were all instructors to realize that the quality of mental
process, not the production of correct answers, is the measure of educative growth
something hardly less than a revolution in teaching would be worked.”
― John Dewey, Democracy and Education
  
  Every classroom has unique characteristics that makes it different from the others. 
Just like society, my classroom will operate according to the components that conforms it, 
such as:  culture background, abilities, number and learning styles.  I believe that one of my 
most important roles as a teacher is to learn each of these components. They will allow me 
to be able to guide the students towards learning and understanding. Assessments should 
reflect the understandings of not only what students know, but what they can perform 
beyond school life. I believe that formative assessments that provide information to be 
used as feedback for teachers and students to succeed and demonstrate the 
comprehension and mastery of a subject in subsequent performance tests. 
  
          I believe creating an environment where students feel safe and free to express their 
feelings and ideas is important. Also, having periodical meetings to discuss issues 
affecting our class community or listening to each other’s ideas reflects the way our 
democratic society works, because as John Dewey said:  “It is quite clear that there cannot 
be two sets of ethical principles, or two forms of ethical theory, one for life in the school, 
and the other for life outside of the school.”  Following John Dewey’s idea of  democracy in 
the classroom, I believe that students should participate and be an integral part of the 
assessment process.  Students should have a clear understanding of the importance and 
practical use a subject taught can have in their life.  Self ­assessment, peer assessment 
and students developed tests should be valid expressions and evidence to show me if 
what I taught met the students learning needs.  The purpose of assessments should be to 
support and enhance students learning.  I believe that assessments should reflect 
standards as well as students cultural background and learning styles.  I also feel that it is 
an excellent tool to evaluate not only student’s learning, but my performance as an effective 
teacher.  Every student is an individual with multiple and unique skills and abilities.  My goal 
as a teacher is to find out those strengths in order to create fair and valid assessments. 
  
   I believe helping students to develop love and respect for themselves, others and 
the environment is important.  Having a short list of fair but consistent rules created as a 
result of the whole class input where the word respect plays a main role.  Create an 
environment that promotes teamwork, fun learning and cultural awareness.   
  
   For me, teaching is a continuation of my learning.  I think every day brings new 
things to learn and explore.  Today, education is evolving into the technology era.  I look 
forward to use any available technological venues to create effective assessments.  Web 
2.0 provides several tools that are excellent for tests and practice.  Teaching will continue 
changing and I don’t want to be left behind.   Our students deserve to receive solid 
education, and in order to fulfill that need I will continue to update my knowledge about new 
teaching technology.   
 
 
In conclusion,  my goal as a teacher is to transmit to my students the passion for 
exploring and learning while creating an environment that is safe and welcoming as well as 
equipped with the essential tools, guidance and support necessary for education to 
flourish.
