Samsung series 5 550 has better features than other chromebooks
1. Samsung Series 5 550 Has Better Features Than Other Chromebooks
Sexy!
Samsung is pretty much known in the industry for their dominance in smartphones and laptops.
They are also known to take a gamble when it comes to technology.
Their ultrabooks are known to break conventions in design and features. Their smartphones also
gamble in design, such as bigger screens, which can be too big for a lot of people.
Now, they’re also gambling with new software – Google’s Chrome OS. It’s a browser – based
software that allows you to be connected with the Internet at all times, and Google has chosen
Samsung to be its hardware manufacturer.
If you’re willing to trade in laptop for a Chromebook, you might want to take a look at the
features first, with Samsung’s Series 5 550.
Design
Cool!
The Chromebook doesn’t look really different from other Samsung products. That being said, it
doesn’t mean the 550 looks bland.
2. The machine weighs 3.3 pounds and takes the form of an ultrabook. If you’re not familiar with
the term, ultrabooks are laptops that compromise certain features for portability.
In the case of this electronics, you’re given an 11-13 inch screen, no hard drive and no optical
drive.
In terms of ports though, Samsung puts in a few for basic needs. You’ll find two USB 2.0 ports,
Ethernet port, DisplayPort and headphone input. There’s also support for Bluetooth 3.0 to round
things off in terms of connectivity.
Display
As mentioned earlier, ultrabooks have at least 11 – 13 inches of screen size. For the 550, the
screen size is 12.1 inches with a matte screen.
You’ll be surprised at the great quality this screen has. A matte finish significantly reduces glare,
which is a very annoying thing for laptop owners. Aside from that, you get a 1280 x 800 screen
resolution.
While you may think that’s a very low resolution, keep in mind that the laptop only costs for
around 500 bucks and is marketed as a budget laptop.
Hardware
Instead of a hard drive, you’re given a 16 GB flash drive for your storage needs. Aside from that,
you get an Intel dual – core CPU. It provides ample speeds for the OS. Don’t expect this laptop
to be loaded with an i7 processor, because it would be overkill.
Aside from that, you also get 4 GB of RAM for all multitasking needs.
With the price given for this laptop, these specs are very much on the money. You won’t be
disappointed despite the lower – grade parts used.
Battery Life
It’s expected that this laptop can last for about six hours, which is great. Under heavy usage
though, such as watching movies and surfing the web at the same time, you get three hours,
which is still quite good.
Conclusion
You can trade your old laptop and get the Chromebook if you want something that’s truly
original.
The main benefits of this laptop are that it allows you instant access to the Internet. You can
basically surf the web in an instant thanks to the built in 3G radio, Wi–Fi and Ethernet port.
3. Of course, the downside is that you get a stripped – down OS that pales in comparison to
Microsoft’s or Apple’s products.
But hey, don’t take my word for it. Try it out for yourself.
