3. Genesis 50:15-18
When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was
dead, they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may
actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.”
So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before
your father died he commanded, saying, ‘Thus you shall
say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of
your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.”’
Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the
God of your father.”

4. Genesis 50:15-18
And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. Then his
brothers also went and fell down before his face, and
they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”

5. - Was there a change of attitude
in Joseph’s brothers after all those years?
- What was Joseph attitude towards his brothers?

6. Genesis 50:19-21
Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in
the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil
against me; but God meant it for good, in order to
bring it about as it is this day, to save many people
alive. Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide
for you and your little ones.” And he comforted
them and spoke kindly to them.

- What life is God saving?
- Was it physical or spiritual life?
- Is God in control?

8. Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good
to those who love God, to those who are the called
according to His purpose.

9. - What is God’s purpose?
- Is God seeking to reconcile man with himself?
- Why don’t we return to Him once we have been justified?

10. - Who are the messengers of God to those
who still don’t know Him?
- Did Joseph return to the promised land? (Canaan)

11. Genesis 50:22-26
So Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he and his father’s household.
And Joseph lived one hundred and ten years. Joseph
saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation. The
children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were also
brought up on Joseph’s knees. And Joseph said to his
brethren, “I am dying; but God will surely visit you, and
bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore
to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

12. Genesis 50:22-26
Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel,
saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up
my bones from here.” So Joseph died, being one
hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him,
and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

- How did Joseph know God will visit them?
- Did God reveal it to him in a dream?

14. Hebrews 11:22
By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of
the departure of the children of Israel, and gave
instructions concerning his bones.

15. - Did Joseph faith make him righteous before God?
- What happened to the sons of Israel
after their parent’s death?

16. Exodus 1:5-7
All those who were descendants of Jacob were
seventy persons (for Joseph was in Egypt already).
And Joseph died, all his brothers, and all that
generation. But the children of Israel were fruitful and
increased abundantly, multiplied and grew
exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.

17. - How many entered the land of Egypt?
- Was God faithful to the promise He made Abraham?

18. Exodus 1:8-10
Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not
know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Look, the
people of the children of Israel are more and mightier
than we; come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest
they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that
they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so
go up out of the land.”

19. - Which people were bigger?
- Why was the new King so afraid of the children of Israel?
- Did Israel give the Egyptians any reason to doubt them?

20. Psalm 105:24-25
He increased His people greatly, and made them
stronger than their enemies. He turned their heart to
hate His people, to deal craftily with His servants.”

21. - Why did God change the heart of the King?
- Was God thinking on the promise?
- Why was there persecution?
- Was there a plan?
- Is it not God the one who makes History?

22. Exodus 1:11-14
Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict
them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh
supply cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more
they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and
grew. And they were in dread of the children of
Israel. So the Egyptians made the children of Israel
serve with rigor. And they made their lives bitter
with hard bondage—in mortar, in brick, and in all
manner of service in the field. All their service in
which they made them serve was with rigor.

23. - What was Pharaoh’s objective in enslaving
the children of Israel?
- Did he want them to leave their land?
- Did the children of Israel left or stop multiplying?
- Was God preparing the hearts in the children of Israel?

24. Exodus 1:15-21
Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew
midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah
and the name of the other Puah; and he said, “When
you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew
women, and see them on the birth stools, if it is a
son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter,
then she shall live.”

25. Exodus 1:15-21
But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the
king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male
children alive. So the king of Egypt called for the
midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this
thing, and saved the male children alive?”
And the midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the
Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for
they are lively and give birth before the midwives
come to them.”

26. Exodus 1:15-21
Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the
people multiplied and grew very mighty. And so it
was, because the midwives feared God, that He
provided households for them.”

27. - Why did the midwives disobey the order of the King??
- Were they not risking their own lives?
- Was Pharaoh able to stop the increase of people in Israel?
- What was the king going to do next?

28. Exodus 1:22
So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying,
“Every son who is born you shall cast into the river,
and every daughter you shall save alive.”

29. - Who is Pharaoh commanding now??
- Was there any danger in the Nile?
- Did God forget the children of Israel?
- What is the meaning for the death of the innocent?

30. Exodus 2:1-4
And a man of the house of Levi went and took as
wife a daughter of Levi. So the woman conceived
and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a
beautiful child, she hid him three months. But when
she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of
bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch,
put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the
river’s bank. And his sister stood afar off, to know
what would be done to him.

31. - What would had happen if the child was discovered?
- Why did they choose an ark?
- What happened with those that were in Noah’s ark?
- Were they acting in faith by putting their child
in God’s hands?
- Does God want us to depend on Him?

32. Exodus 2:5-10
Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe
at the river. And her maidens walked along the
riverside; and when she saw the ark among the
reeds, she sent her maid to get it. And when she
opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby
wept. So she had compassion on him, and said,
“This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

33. Exodus 2:5-10
Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I
go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew
women, that she may nurse the child for you?” And
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the
maiden went and called the child’s mother. Then
Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child
away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your
wages.”

34. Exodus 2:5-10
So the woman took the child and nursed him. And
the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s
daughter, and he became her son. So she called his
name Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of
the water.”

35. - How could the circumstances
be aligned in such a way?
- Could the parents of the child
be able to plan it this way?
- Why did the child come
back to her mother?
- Was it necessary to teach
the child about the history
and promises of their
people?

36. - Could the daughter
of Pharaoh go against
the order of his father?
- Was it not ironic that
the mother was paid
to raise her own child?
- Is there a reward
in having faith?

37. Exodus 2:11-15
Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses
was grown, that he went out to his brethren and
looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian
beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. So he
looked this way and that way, and when he saw no
one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

And when he went out the second day, behold, two
Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one
who did the wrong, “Why are you striking your
companion?” Then he said, “Who made you a
prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me
as you killed the Egyptian?”

So Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is
known!” When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he
sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face
of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he
sat down by a well.

- What did he know? - Who put it in his heart?
- How old was Moses?

41. Acts 7:22-25
And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the
Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds. “Now
when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to
visit his brethren, the children of Israel. And seeing
one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged
him who was oppressed, and struck down the
Egyptian. For he supposed that his brethren would
have understood that God would deliver them by his
hand, but they did not understand.

42. - Did Moses already know he was going
to deliver his brethren?
- Why did he kill the Egyptian?
- Did God put it in his heart?

43. - What did his brethren have to understand?
- Was Moses taking justice in his own hands?
- Why did he make such decision
ruining his privileged position?

44. Hebrews 11:24-26
By faith Moses, when he became of age,
refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s
daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction
with the people of God than to enjoy the
passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the
reproach of Christ greater riches than the
treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the
reward.

- What did God tell Moses?
- Did he know about Christ already?
- Which riches did Moses choose?
- Was it the eternal or the temporary riches?

46. Acts 7:26-30
And the next day he appeared to two of them as they
were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying,
‘Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong one
another?’ But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed
him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge
over us? Do you want to kill me as you did the
Egyptian yesterday?’

47. Acts 7:26-30
Then, at this saying, Moses fled and became a
dweller in the land of Midian, where he had two
sons. “And when forty years had passed, an Angel of
the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush,
in the wilderness of Mount Sinai.

- Did Moses act according to the plan of God?
- Was it the time of God yet?
- Do we need patience to obtain God’s promises?

49. Exodus 2:23-25
Now it happened in the process of time that the king of
Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned
because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their
cry came up to God because of the bondage. So God
heard their groaning, and God remembered His
covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God
acknowledged them.

- Did Gog forget about Israel?
- Who did the children of Israel cry to?

or were they crying because of their condition?
- Why did God wait so long?
- What did God remember?

52. Genesis 15:13-14
Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your
descendants will be strangers in a land that is not
theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them
four hundred years. And also the nation whom they
serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with
great possessions.

53. - How many years were the children of Israel afflicted?
- How much is God’s knowledge?
- Why did God allow all these to happen?

54. Ezekiel 20:5-10
“Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “On the day
when I chose Israel and raised My hand in an oath to
the descendants of the house of Jacob, and made
Myself known to them in the land of Egypt, I raised
My hand in an oath to them, saying, ‘I am the LORD
your God.’ On that day I raised My hand in an oath to
them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a
land that I had searched out for them, ‘flowing with
milk and honey,’ the glory of all lands.

55. Ezekiel 20:5-10
Then I said to them, ‘Each of you, throw away the
abominations which are before his eyes, and do not
defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the
LORD your God.’ But they rebelled against Me and
would not obey Me. They did not all cast away the
abominations which were before their eyes, nor did
they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said, ‘I will
pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger
against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.”

56. Ezekiel 20:5-10
But I acted for My name’s sake, that it should not be
profaned before the Gentiles among whom they
were, in whose sight I had made Myself known to
them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
“Therefore I made them go out of the land of Egypt
and brought them into the wilderness.”

57. - What was God’s opinion on the children of Israel?
- Why did God deliver the Israelites?
- Was it for His promises?
(His Name sake)

58. - What was God doing with all the suffering
and mistreatment to Israel?
- Was God preparing their hearts
so they will listen to Him?

59. WHAT DID WE LEARN TODAY?
- The trials we face in our life have the power
to change our attitude for good or for bad.
- God’s purpose is to do good to those He has called.
- Fear is a bad counselor. Among its fruits
you will find prejudice and injustice.
- God reveals His plans to those who wait on Him, and
desires our trust and patience to wait for His time.
- It is better to obey God at first, than obey Him
through the toil of adversity.
