- What happened with Jesus after the Passover celebration?
Luke 22:39-46
Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He
was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.
When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray
that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was
withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He
knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your
will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My
will, but Yours, be done.”
Luke 22:39-46
Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven,
strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed
more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great
drops of blood falling down to the ground. When He
rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He
found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to
them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you
enter into temptation.”
- How did Judas know where to find Jesus?
- Did Jesus go to the Mount of Olives frequently?
- What did He do?
- How can we avoid falling into temptation?
- What did Jesus mean by the cup?
- Did He already know what was going to happen?
- Was Jesus afraid?
- Didn’t He declare obedience to the Father?
- What is the purpose of the Christ?
- Isn’t it to reinstate our communion with God?
- What did God want to teach Adam
with the test of the tree?
- Was Jesus successful by Himself?
- Who is He depending on? God
Which one will
you choose?
- Does God desire that men depend on Him?
- Do we need to know Him in order to depend on Him?
- Is our relation with Him based in our obedience?
- What is the purpose of trials?
1 Peter 1:3-8
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has
begotten us again to a living hope through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an
inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does
not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are
kept by the power of God through faith for salvation
ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:3-8
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little
while, if need be, you have been grieved by various
trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much
more precious than gold that perishes, though it is
tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and
glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having
not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him,
yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and
full of glory
- What is Faith?
- Is it to believe Him?
- What was God’s purpose with those trees?
If you believe Him – There is a relationship
If you don’t believe – You will live independently
- What happened with the disciples
in the Mount of Olives?
- Does sorrow makes us sleepy?
Mark 14:37-38
Then He came and found them sleeping, and said
to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not
watch one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter
into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but
the flesh is weak.”
- Who is willing to be in communion?
The Spirit
- What about the flesh?
- Did it profit for anything?
John 18:1-11
When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out
with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where
there was a garden, which He and His disciples
entered. And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew
the place; for Jesus often met there with His
disciples. Then Judas, having received a
detachment of troops, and officers from the chief
priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns,
torches, and weapons.
John 18:1-11
Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would
come upon Him, went forward and said to them,
“Whom are you seeking?” They answered Him,
“Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am He.”
And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with
them. Now when He said to them, “I am He,” they
drew back and fell to the ground. Then He asked
them again, “Whom are you seeking?” And they
said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus answered, “I have
told you that I am He.
John 18:1-11
Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their way,”
that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke,
“Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none.”
Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and
struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right
ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. So Jesus said
to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I
not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?”
- Why did the officers and troops fall to the ground?
- What did Jesus answered them?
- How did God identify Himself to Moses?
- Can we stand in the presence of God?
- Did Jesus make intersession for His disciples?
Mark 14:53-59
And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and
with him were assembled all the chief priests, the
elders, and the scribes. But Peter followed Him at a
distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest.
And he sat with the servants and warmed himself
at the fire. Now the chief priests and all the council
sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to
death, but found none. For many bore false witness
against Him, but their testimonies did not agree.
Mark 14:53-59
Then some rose up and bore false witness against
Him, saying, “We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this
temple made with hands, and within three days I
will build another made without hands.’” But not
even then did their testimony agree.
- Where did they take Jesus?
- What were they trying to do?
- Could they incriminate Jesus even with false testimony?
- What did Jesus say?
Mark 14:60-65
And the high priest stood up in the midst and
asked Jesus, saying, “Do You answer nothing?
What is it these men testify against You?” But He
kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high
priest asked Him, saying to Him, “Are You the
Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” Jesus said, “I am.
And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right
hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of
heaven.”
Mark 14:60-65
Then the high priest tore his clothes and said,
“What further need do we have of witnesses? You
have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?”
And they all condemned Him to be deserving of
death. Then some began to spit on Him, and to
blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him,
“Prophesy!” And the officers struck Him with the
palms of their hands
- Who is asking Jesus now?
The Religious Authority - Spiritual
- What is the occupation of the high priest?
- Did he know what he was doing?
- Is it enough to have the title?
- Did he understand what Jesus told him?
Mark 15:1-5
Immediately, in the morning, the chief priests held a
consultation with the elders and scribes and the
whole council; and they bound Jesus, led Him away,
and delivered Him to Pilate. Then Pilate asked Him,
“Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered and
said to him, “It is as you say.” And the chief priests
accused Him of many things, but He answered
nothing. Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do
You answer nothing? See how many things they
testify against You!” But Jesus still answered
nothing, so that Pilate marveled.
- Where did they take Jesus?
The Roman Authority – World
- Why did Pilate ask Jesus and marvel at His silence?
- What was written in the prophets 700 years before?
Isaiah 53:7
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened
not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He
opened not His mouth.
- Can silence talk lauder in the face of injustice?
Mark 15:6-14
Now at the feast he was accustomed to releasing
one prisoner to them, whomever they requested.
And there was one named Barabbas, who was
chained with his fellow rebels; they had committed
murder in the rebellion. Then the multitude, crying
aloud, began to ask him to do just as he had always
done for them. But Pilate answered them, saying,
“Do you want me to release to you the King of the
Jews?” For he knew that the chief priests had
handed Him over because of envy.
Mark 15:6-14
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he
should rather release Barabbas to them. Pilate
answered and said to them again, “What then do
you want me to do with Him whom you call the King
of the Jews?” So they cried out again, “Crucify Him!”
Then Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He
done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify
Him!”
- Were the multitudes or
the chief priests
obsessed with Jesus?
- Why did they want Him dead?
- Was envy the sin that kill our savior?
- Why did the multitudes reject Jesus?
- Why did the multitudes reject Jesus?
- Didn’t we all?
- How must have been Jesus feeling? .
Psalm 69:4
Those who hate me without a cause
are more than the hairs of my head;
They are mighty who would destroy me,
being my enemies wrongfully;
Though I have stolen nothing,
I still must restore it.
- Was there any cause for such rejection?
- What did Pilate with Jesus?
Mark 15:15
So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released
Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he
had scourged Him, to be crucified.
- Did he want to do it?
- Was not Pilate job to keep the crowd in control?
- What did they do to Jesus?
Mark 15:16-17
Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called
Praetorium, and they called together the whole
garrison. And they clothed Him with purple; and they
twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and
began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then
they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on
Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him.
- Why did they mock Jesus?
- When was the thorns first mentioned in God’s story?
- Was it not when God cursed the earth?
- What did they put on Jesus head?
Psalms 22:16-18
For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
They pierced My hands and My feet;
I can count all My bones.
They look and stare at Me.
They divide My garments among them,
and for My clothing they cast lots.
- Who are the dogs?
The gentiles
- Who was David referring to when he wrote the psalm?
Mark 15:20-24
And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple
off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out
to crucify Him. Then they compelled a certain man,
Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as
he was coming out of the country and passing by, to
bear His cross. And they brought Him to the place
Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. Then
they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but
He did not take it. And when they crucified Him, they
divided His garments, casting lots for them to
determine what every man should take.
- Who were in front of Jesus?
- How did David know what was going to happen?
- Who is telling us the story? God
- Can we know what was He thinking?
Psalms 22:14-15
I am poured out like water,
and all My bones are out of joint;
My heart is like wax;
It has melted within Me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and My tongue clings to My jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death.
- What happened with His heart?
- What does it mean that His tongue clings to His jaws?
- Was He thirsty?
Mark 15:25-26
Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.
And the inscription of His accusation was written
above:
THE KING OF THE JEWS.
- What does the cause of His death means?
- Is it a sin to be the King of the Jews?
- What did the crowd scream to Him?
Mark 15:27-32
With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His
right and the other on His left. So the Scripture was
fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with the
transgressors.” And those who passed by blasphemed
Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who
destroy the temple and build it in three days, save
Yourself, and come down from the cross!” Likewise the
chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the
scribes, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save.
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the
cross, that we may see and believe.” Even those who
were crucified with Him reviled Him.
- Why didn’t they believe all His past miracles?
- A new one would have changed their minds?
- Where was this event written in scripture?
Isaiah 53:12
Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
and He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because He poured out His soul unto death, and He
was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore
the sin of many, and made intercession for the
transgressors.
- Was Jesus on the cross making intercession for us all?
- Could Jesus had saved himself?
If He had done it,
- How would we be reconciled with God?
- How did Jesus feel on the cross?
Psalms 22:6-8
But I am a worm, and no man;
a reproach of men, and despised by the people.
All those who see Me ridicule Me;
They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
“He trusted in the LORD, let Him rescue Him;
Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!”
- Why Jesus had to die?
- Is death the only way to pay for sin?
- What does the Justice and Holiness of God demands?
- Where was the lamb for the sacrifice that
Abraham and Isaac offered to God?
- Did it have any defect?
- Was Jesus without defect?
Mark 15:33-34
Now when the sixth hour had come, there was
darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud
voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which
is translated,
“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
- At what time was the crucifixion?
3rd
– 9:00 AM
- What happened in the sixth hour?
- Was it a solar eclipse that last for three hours?
- Why did the sun hide its face?
- Did it want to see such injustice?
- Is creation suffering along with God?
- What did Jesus cried out?
- Did God abandon Jesus at the cross?
- Can God separate Himself?
- Why He didn’t do anything about it?
- Was Jesus lonely at the cross?
- How can the Holiness and Justice of God
deal with this situation?
- Was God in anguish too?
Matthew 27:50
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice,
and yielded up His spirit.
- Did they kill Jesus?
- Who yields His spirit?
- Was not Jesus Himself?
- Does it mean that Jesus
was in control?
John 19:30
So when Jesus had received the sour wine,
He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His
head, He gave up His spirit.
- What did Jesus mean by ‘It is finished’?
- Was it His mission?
Mark 15:38
Then the veil of the temple was torn in two
from top to bottom.
- Where was the veil of the temple placed?
- What is the meaning of the veil being torn
from top to bottom?
- Who is doing it and what does it mean?
- Do we now have access to the Holy of Hollies?
Hebrews 9:22-28
And according to the law almost all things are
purified with blood, and without shedding of blood
there is no remission. Therefore it was necessary that
the copies of the things in the heavens should be
purified with these, but the heavenly things
themselves with better sacrifices than these. For
Christ has not entered the holy places made with
hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven
itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
Hebrews 9:22-28
not that He should offer Himself often, as the high
priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with
blood of another— He then would have had to suffer
often since the foundation of the world; but now,
once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put
away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is
appointed for men to die once, but after this the
judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins
of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will
appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
- Where was Jesus entering?
- Why did HE enter with His own blood?
- For whom did He present Himself before God?
- Did He appear to remit or put away sin?
Hebrews 10:19-23
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the
Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way
which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is,
His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of
God, let us draw near with a true heart in full
assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from
an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure
water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope
without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
- Is there now liberty to come near God?
- Why is the veil His flesh?
- Can the flesh retain God’s Glory?
- Could Jesus flesh retain His Glory in the transfiguration?
WHAT DID WE LEARN TODAY?
- Our relationship with God depends on our obedience.
- We must learn to depend on God through His Spirit
and resist the passions of the flesh.
- Jesus submitted Himself to God’s will,
even though He was always in control.
- He laid willingly His life and took it back again.
- The death of Jesus on the cross paid the debt of our sin
against a most Holy God.
- We have freedom now to enter into God’s presence,
with a clean conscience.

32 The Cross

  • 2. - What happened with Jesus after the Passover celebration?
  • 3. Luke 22:39-46 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”
  • 4. Luke 22:39-46 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”
  • 5. - How did Judas know where to find Jesus? - Did Jesus go to the Mount of Olives frequently? - What did He do?
  • 6. - How can we avoid falling into temptation? - What did Jesus mean by the cup? - Did He already know what was going to happen?
  • 7. - Was Jesus afraid? - Didn’t He declare obedience to the Father? - What is the purpose of the Christ? - Isn’t it to reinstate our communion with God?
  • 8. - What did God want to teach Adam with the test of the tree? - Was Jesus successful by Himself? - Who is He depending on? God Which one will you choose?
  • 9. - Does God desire that men depend on Him? - Do we need to know Him in order to depend on Him? - Is our relation with Him based in our obedience? - What is the purpose of trials?
  • 10. 1 Peter 1:3-8 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
  • 11. 1 Peter 1:3-8 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory
  • 12. - What is Faith? - Is it to believe Him? - What was God’s purpose with those trees? If you believe Him – There is a relationship If you don’t believe – You will live independently
  • 13. - What happened with the disciples in the Mount of Olives? - Does sorrow makes us sleepy?
  • 14. Mark 14:37-38 Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
  • 15. - Who is willing to be in communion? The Spirit - What about the flesh? - Did it profit for anything?
  • 16. John 18:1-11 When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered. And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples. Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
  • 17. John 18:1-11 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, “Whom are you seeking?” They answered Him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am He.” And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them. Now when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground. Then He asked them again, “Whom are you seeking?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus answered, “I have told you that I am He.
  • 18. John 18:1-11 Therefore, if you seek Me, let these go their way,” that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, “Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none.” Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?”
  • 19. - Why did the officers and troops fall to the ground? - What did Jesus answered them? - How did God identify Himself to Moses? - Can we stand in the presence of God?
  • 20. - Did Jesus make intersession for His disciples?
  • 21. Mark 14:53-59 And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and with him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes. But Peter followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire. Now the chief priests and all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. For many bore false witness against Him, but their testimonies did not agree.
  • 22. Mark 14:53-59 Then some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying, “We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.’” But not even then did their testimony agree.
  • 23. - Where did they take Jesus? - What were they trying to do? - Could they incriminate Jesus even with false testimony? - What did Jesus say?
  • 24. Mark 14:60-65 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” Jesus said, “I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
  • 25. Mark 14:60-65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?” And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. Then some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands
  • 26. - Who is asking Jesus now? The Religious Authority - Spiritual - What is the occupation of the high priest? - Did he know what he was doing? - Is it enough to have the title? - Did he understand what Jesus told him?
  • 27. Mark 15:1-5 Immediately, in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate. Then Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered and said to him, “It is as you say.” And the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He answered nothing. Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You!” But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled.
  • 28. - Where did they take Jesus? The Roman Authority – World - Why did Pilate ask Jesus and marvel at His silence? - What was written in the prophets 700 years before?
  • 29. Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.
  • 30. - Can silence talk lauder in the face of injustice?
  • 31. Mark 15:6-14 Now at the feast he was accustomed to releasing one prisoner to them, whomever they requested. And there was one named Barabbas, who was chained with his fellow rebels; they had committed murder in the rebellion. Then the multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do just as he had always done for them. But Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.
  • 32. Mark 15:6-14 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas to them. Pilate answered and said to them again, “What then do you want me to do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” So they cried out again, “Crucify Him!” Then Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify Him!”
  • 33. - Were the multitudes or the chief priests obsessed with Jesus? - Why did they want Him dead? - Was envy the sin that kill our savior? - Why did the multitudes reject Jesus?
  • 34. - Why did the multitudes reject Jesus? - Didn’t we all? - How must have been Jesus feeling? .
  • 35. Psalm 69:4 Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; They are mighty who would destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully; Though I have stolen nothing, I still must restore it.
  • 36. - Was there any cause for such rejection? - What did Pilate with Jesus?
  • 37. Mark 15:15 So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged Him, to be crucified.
  • 38. - Did he want to do it? - Was not Pilate job to keep the crowd in control? - What did they do to Jesus?
  • 39. Mark 15:16-17 Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison. And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him.
  • 40. - Why did they mock Jesus? - When was the thorns first mentioned in God’s story? - Was it not when God cursed the earth? - What did they put on Jesus head?
  • 41. Psalms 22:16-18 For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.
  • 42. - Who are the dogs? The gentiles - Who was David referring to when he wrote the psalm?
  • 43. Mark 15:20-24 And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him. Then they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross. And they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. Then they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He did not take it. And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take.
  • 44. - Who were in front of Jesus? - How did David know what was going to happen? - Who is telling us the story? God - Can we know what was He thinking?
  • 45. Psalms 22:14-15 I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It has melted within Me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death.
  • 46. - What happened with His heart? - What does it mean that His tongue clings to His jaws? - Was He thirsty?
  • 47. Mark 15:25-26 Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. And the inscription of His accusation was written above: THE KING OF THE JEWS.
  • 48. - What does the cause of His death means? - Is it a sin to be the King of the Jews? - What did the crowd scream to Him?
  • 49. Mark 15:27-32 With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with the transgressors.” And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself, and come down from the cross!” Likewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him.
  • 50. - Why didn’t they believe all His past miracles? - A new one would have changed their minds? - Where was this event written in scripture?
  • 51. Isaiah 53:12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
  • 52. - Was Jesus on the cross making intercession for us all? - Could Jesus had saved himself? If He had done it, - How would we be reconciled with God? - How did Jesus feel on the cross?
  • 53. Psalms 22:6-8 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people. All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, “He trusted in the LORD, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!”
  • 54. - Why Jesus had to die? - Is death the only way to pay for sin? - What does the Justice and Holiness of God demands?
  • 55. - Where was the lamb for the sacrifice that Abraham and Isaac offered to God? - Did it have any defect? - Was Jesus without defect?
  • 56. Mark 15:33-34 Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
  • 57. - At what time was the crucifixion? 3rd – 9:00 AM - What happened in the sixth hour? - Was it a solar eclipse that last for three hours? - Why did the sun hide its face? - Did it want to see such injustice? - Is creation suffering along with God?
  • 58. - What did Jesus cried out? - Did God abandon Jesus at the cross? - Can God separate Himself? - Why He didn’t do anything about it?
  • 59. - Was Jesus lonely at the cross? - How can the Holiness and Justice of God deal with this situation? - Was God in anguish too?
  • 60. Matthew 27:50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
  • 61. - Did they kill Jesus? - Who yields His spirit? - Was not Jesus Himself? - Does it mean that Jesus was in control?
  • 62. John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
  • 63. - What did Jesus mean by ‘It is finished’? - Was it His mission?
  • 64. Mark 15:38 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
  • 65. - Where was the veil of the temple placed? - What is the meaning of the veil being torn from top to bottom? - Who is doing it and what does it mean? - Do we now have access to the Holy of Hollies?
  • 66. Hebrews 9:22-28 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
  • 67. Hebrews 9:22-28 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

  • 69. Hebrews 10:19-23 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

  • 71. WHAT DID WE LEARN TODAY? - Our relationship with God depends on our obedience. - We must learn to depend on God through His Spirit and resist the passions of the flesh. - Jesus submitted Himself to God’s will, even though He was always in control. - He laid willingly His life and took it back again. - The death of Jesus on the cross paid the debt of our sin against a most Holy God. - We have freedom now to enter into God’s presence, with a clean conscience.
