3. INTRODUCTION
In this presentation we are going to talk about sound
editing.
When you edit a sound you change its format, its
length etc.
First, we want to describe some audio devices in order
to let you know your options.
Then, we are going to write about codecs, loss codecs
and lossless codecs.
Finally, about the sound formats so as to show you to
which formats you can transform your sounds.

4. Audio Devices
• Loudspeakers: They are
objects that are used to
transform electrical signals into
audible signal.
• Headphones: They are a
pair of small loudspeakers that
are designed to be held in place
close to a user's ears.
• Microphones: They are
devices used to transform sound
found in the air into electrical
signals.
• Sound Cards: They are
an expansion card that forms
part of the computer. Its mission
is to facilitate the input and
output of audio signals to/from
the computer controlled by the
computer programs.
• Sound Ports: They are
the slabs located in the computer
that are used to connect audio
devices to the machine.
They are objects that we use in order to reproduce sound

6. CODECS
Lossy codecs
• It is a method that compresses
the information or data by
losing some of it.
Lossless codecs
• It is a method that allows the
data or information to be
compressed without having to
lose part of it.
It is a device or computer program. Its function is to encode and
decode digital data streams or signals.

7. Sound Formats
• WAV (Waveform audio file format): It belongs to Mac X OS and
therefore Apple owns it.
• MIDI (Musical instrument digital interface): It belongs to Windows
OS and because of that it is Microsoft.
• MP3 (Audio player 3): Do not belong neither to a single OS nor to a
brand. It can be used by any OS and therefore by any brand.
• Aiff (audio interchange file format): It belongs to Mac X OS and it is
from Apple.
• Cda: It was created by Microsoft and Windows is the OS it uses.
• Wma(windows media audio) : As its name shows it was created by
Microsoft and Windows is its OS.
• Aup: It was created as an extension of the Audacity Audio Software
and it can be used with Linux, Windows and Mac OS X
