On November 12, Veterans Day Observed, the children and staff of Peck Place gathered to celebrate the sacrifices and service of the community's Veterans. The celebration was captured in pictures you can view here.
5. Prior to Veterans Day, the Peck Place Student Council sold
red, white, and blue ribbons which students and staff wore on
Veterans Day. The money they raised was donated to the VFW.
6. The ceremony opened with the
presentation of colors by the 6th Grade
Flag Bearers, followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance and “The Star Spangled
Banner.”
7. Mr. Carbone, Principal of Peck Place School, gave a welcoming address and
challenged the students to recognize the importance of Veteran’s Day by
giving back to their community in their own way.
8. The 6th grade students sang the “Armed Forces Medley,” arranged by Lloyd Larson, and
Veterans stood when they heard their branch of the service being recognized.
9. This portion of the program, with the veterans standing for
their service anthem, was very moving.
10. These Veterans stood for the Air Force anthem; this group included servicemen from
Orange’s own Air Force division, the 103rd Air Control Squadron.
11. The Veterans Day Guest Speaker was Lt. Fred Bond, a member of the Air Force’s
103rd Air Control Squadron, stationed here in Orange.
12.
13. The 3rd grade students sang “Thank You Soldiers,” by Michael and Angela Souders,
and 4th graders sang “Our Heroes Will Live On,” by Teresa Jennings.
14. The ceremony ended with the
recession of colors and the entire
assembly singing “America the
Beautiful.”
