Intro: Volume 6 - How to Weave Full Persian
If you are new to chain mailing and have never done it before, please read through Volume 1 - Introduction to Chainmail on the parts of rings, how to use them, the tools
to use, and how to open and close rings. It also contains links to where you can purchase a wide variety of rings and tools.
Full Persian is one of the basic jewelry weaves. It makes a solid, somewhat heavy, intricate chain. Because of the density of the weave, relatively large rings are required
- 3/8"-14swg, 1/4"-18swg, and 1/8"-22swg all work with varying degrees of flexibility. Full Persian also forms the basis for two other jewelry weaves - Half Persian 3-in-1
and Half Persian 4-in-1.
Four “colors” are required to adequately show how this weave goes together. The image below depicts as accurately as possible the differences between the four
“colors” and how they’re labeled in the instructions.
step 1: Starting the weave
Pass four closed rings, shown in copper, through two open rings, shown in silver. Close the open rings and lay the group out as shown.

2. step 2: Folding the weave
Start moving and folding the rings as shown below. This part can be a bit tricky so learning this weave is best done with larger ring sizes until you become comfortable
with the weave.
step 3: Folding down the rings
Manipulate the rings to look like the following. The right most two rings are now shown in gold for better contrast. It's important to move the rings into this position as two
new rings in the next step will be woven through the middle of the copper and gold rings where they overlap.

step 4: Adding rings
Put two open rings, shown in brass(the dark brown rings), through the copper and gold rings between the silver ones, then close. Do this one ring at a time. Try to avoid
having the brass pair slip around. It might help to stick a piece of wire through the gold and copper pairs where you need to add the brass colored rings.

3. step 5: Completing the set
Add two more rings open rings, shown in copper, onto the right end and close.
step 6: Extending the weave
To lengthen the chain, repeat steps 4 and 5 to the desired length. Typically you'll use the same color and metal rings throughout. For the sake of clarity, alternating silver
and copper have been used below.
However, alternating colored rings can be used. For example, black stainless steel and stainless steel make a great looking black and "silver" bracelet.
