4. •Literature (from Latin litterae (plural); letter)
•is the art of written work
•The word literature literally means "things made from
letters"

6.  Literature, besides from being an art form used
for expression
 preserves cultural ideals, customs, and morals
 written word gives us a deeper context into the
lives and livelihood of people distinct from
ourselves
 window into another person's or people's world,
 literature also challenges the reader to
profoundly ponder the art form itself
 is so important because it's a glimpse of history
it tells the story of the centuries before us

8.  Myth- a traditional story in prose concerning
details of gods and demigods and the
creation of the world and its inhabitants.
Examples: a. Visayan creation myth
b. Tungkung Langit and Alunsina
 Ethiological Legends- legends which explain
how things came to be, why things are as
they are.
Examples: a. Legend of Mayon Volcano
b. Legend of the Tagalog

9.  Heroic Narrative or Epic- folk epics which narrate
the adventures of tribal heroes which embody
in themselves the ideals and values of the group.
Examples: a. Lam-ang b. Ullalim c. Ibalon
d. Indarapatra and Sulayman
 Folk Tales- prose narrative regarded as
 Animal Tale- a folktale using animals as
characters
 The Monkey and the Turtle
 The Cow and the Carabao
 Folk Speech- simplest form of oral literature
 Riddles- description of object in terms intended
to suggest something entirely different
 Proverbs- short popular sayings that express
effectively some commonplace truth or useful
thought.

10. Folk Songs- verses set into music by the
members of the community.
