7. In April 1997, after the death of John Powell (Harvey’s last
victim), Powell had been in a comatose for several months, but
he had started to recover. So when his unexpected death came
an autopsy was given. Within the autopsy the coroner had
noticed the smell of cyanide. Authorities were then notified and
checked if any friends or family may have done this in order to
gain something which none had, so the authorities checked who
all had access to the room that was Hospital staff. When they
checked the short list and they learned of Harvey's nickname
"Angel of Death," they began to focus their investigation on
Harvey.
Which with the warrant the authorities had they looked in
Harvey’s apartment and found a lot of incriminating evidence
like jars of cyanide and arsenic, books on the occult and
poisons, and a detailed description of the murders he had
committed in Harvey’s diary.
8. Donald Harvey on the 18th of August 1987 had pled guilty to
24 counts of aggravated murder, four counts of attempted
murder, and one felonious assault.
Then four days later he had a 25th guilty plea
On September 7, 1987 charged with committing 12 murders
at Marymount Hospital pleaded guilty and added 8 life
terms plus 20 years
February 1988 more guilty pleas of three additional
homicides and attempted murders giving him 3 terms of
seven to 25 years
This gave Harvey a sentence of 28 consecutive life
sentences and was fined $270,000 for claiming to kill 87
people but the authorities believe he only killed 37-57
people.
