What is Strategic Planning?

                 Where we are
                          Where we want to be
                                     How we’re going to get there
By deciding
     Our directions
     Our results
     How results are to be accomplished
     How success is to be measured and evaluated
Why have a Strategic Plan?


   To develop a common understanding within the organization
   To present the big picture rather than short term or partial pictures
   To seize the initiative rather than simply react
   To define goals and objectives
   To set priorities, including for resource allocation
   To enable activity planning consistent with broad goals and priorities
   To provide a basis for organisational evaluation
   To explain the organisation to outsiders
Why is it important for IGG to have a
Strategic Plan?

   It enables us to focus on our key priorities
   It enables us to set and communicate clear objectives
   It aids decision making
   It helps to remove uncertainty
   It enables us to maintain control of progress
   It promotes effective, efficient and economic operations
   It enables us to make adjustments when necessary
   It promotes full participation by all

Strategic Plan Presentation - IGG National Conference 2012

  • 2. What is Strategic Planning? “Strategy is discovering what you can uniquely do, that the world of tomorrow needs, and then pursuing it” (Hawkins)
  • 3. What is Strategic Planning? An ongoing process of figuring out Where we are Where we want to be How we’re going to get there By deciding  Our directions  Our results  How results are to be accomplished  How success is to be measured and evaluated
  • 4. Why have a Strategic Plan?  To develop a common understanding within the organization  To present the big picture rather than short term or partial pictures  To seize the initiative rather than simply react  To define goals and objectives  To set priorities, including for resource allocation  To enable activity planning consistent with broad goals and priorities  To provide a basis for organisational evaluation  To explain the organisation to outsiders

Why is it important for IGG to have a Strategic Plan?  It enables us to focus on our key priorities  It enables us to set and communicate clear objectives  It aids decision making  It helps to remove uncertainty  It enables us to maintain control of progress  It promotes effective, efficient and economic operations  It enables us to make adjustments when necessary  It promotes full participation by all
