6. Overview
The sitemap, interaction flows, wireframes and copy are for placement only.
This document illustrates the working interaction design concepts for the redesign of PurinaONE.com This is a working document used as a guide
by interaction designers, copy writers, visual designers, technologists and business stakeholders.
PurinaONE Redesign Strategic Statement
The redesigned PurinaONE® Web site will exemplify Visibly Enhanced Health — the core essence of the brand. The site will enable the acquisition
and retention of Expert Driven Providers (EDP) by leveraging visual and emotive examples of the benefits of PurinaONE as well as content that
directly informs an EDP’s search for answers about achieving and maintaining optimal pet health.
The redesigned site will facilitate the EDP in an online community of peers who may access and share credible pet-related content as well as ask
pet care questions of PurinaONE experts.
It will do this through:
• Intuitive information architecture - The site’s structure will provide dedicated pet lovers with quick knowledge of, and easy access to, instructive
and experiential content. It will create a clear and consistent user experience that allows users to access the product and health-related information
they seek to inform and support their pet food choices, whether it be from experts (tools, challenges, programs, etc.) or from passionate and
committed peers like themselves (success stories, Pictures of Health, and new elements)
• Engaging look and feel - The site will be warm and approachable, with a compelling and aspirational feel that is both simple and inviting. It
will utilize the ONE color palette and consistently provide the visual evidence — evidence that the EDP user desires — that the caring nutritional
experts at PurinaONE have created great tasting food that will visibly enhance their pet’s health. It is “food you can trust”.
• Compelling copy - The redesigned site will make use of existing copy where possible, but will place it in a context of the voice of an
understanding, confident, authentic teacher who is anticipating and responding to the questions of a loving and responsible pet lover. New and
revised sections, as well as site nomenclature, will also reflect this voice and attitude. The copy will make use of the phrases of ONE’s vernacular
and will strive always to speak in a way that makes complicated information easy to understand.
• Robust Technology - The site’s technological underpinnings will support all of the above, creating an environment that is sound, stable, and
architected to support the PurinaONE user’s fundamental expectations of competence and expertise. It will allow users to submit their own content
with ease. From a user’s perspective, it will be notable chiefly by that fact that they will not notice it. It will also allow for growth in traffic and usergenerated content.

The enablement of browser window functionality is dependant upon the nature of the content in
the pop up page.
Is is suggested that printable content pages be between 400 to 480 pixels so that they will print
correctly on a 8.5” wide paper. In some cases browser menus, toolbards and the address bar
may be supressed. In most instances the browsers title bar, status bar, scroll bar and ability to
resize the window should be enabled for the user.

Featured Question
“I need a food for my dog that will make her gain weight. I currently feed her Purina
ONE and she gets about 4 cups per day. I can’t get her to eat more and she is too
skinny. She is a German Shepard about 70 pounds. I’ve taken her to the vet and
she doesn’t have any parasites. She is a very picky eater, even though she doesn’t
get table scraps. Is there anything else I can do?” Read Dr. Horowitz’s reply

Dr. Horowitz Says... “The best diet for any dog is one that is formulated especially for
their age and lifestyle. Purina ONE Total Nutrition adult formulas such as Chicken
Rice Formula, Beef Rice and Lamb Rice all offer complete and balanced nutrition
for adult dogs. Cat food tends to be higher in protein and calories and would not be
a preferred diet for a dog. Table food such as chicken is not complete and also not
recommended as a sole food. Slowly trying to get your dog to eat a commercial dog food
would be best.”

F2.1.1 The Visible Results Plan is an interactive tool that allows pet
owners to generate a list of resources which may be related to thier
pet. Users can answer specific questions about their pet to determine
an overall profile. Based on the user input a page will be dynamically
generated to provide links to relevant content, tips and suggestions
for that pet, and may also recommend products, provide additional
information about the pet breed. Note that a disclaimer / instruction
should be included in the content about always consulting a qualified
veterinarian.

which section the user enters this flow. For example if the user is in Cat
Care/Tools/Healthy Pet Plan the form defaults preselect Pet Type=Cat.
Questions may include:
• Pet Type (Cat or Dog): logic will point to all relevant pet type content.
• Pet Name
• Gender (Male or Female)
• Spayed or Neutered? (Yes or No)
• Breed: logic will further narrow relevant content specific to breed
(purebreds or mixed breeds). For example, based on animal type and
breed show links to articles about breed related issues. (general breed
groups include: Herding, Hound, Non-Sporting, Sporting, Terrier, Toy,
Working. TBD consider menu behavior for the breed selector and how
simple or complex this may need to become to address accuracy in the
results)
• Pet Age (Birth Date): logic will further narrow relevant content specific
to age. For example, based on animal type and age show links to
articles about age related issues.
• Pet Height: (inches) TBD May consider more general “size” such as
Cat=Small, Medium, Large; Dog= Toy, Mini, Standard, Large.
• Pet Weight: (Pounds) TBD logic will further narrow relevant content
specific to weight. For example, based on animal type, age, breed and
weight show links to articles about healthy weight related issues. Note
that this question may be contingent upon other parameters such as
breed and age.
• Outdoor, Indoor or Both Indoors and Outdoors
• Activity Level (Dogs= 1. Heavy - daily, and more than a walk. May
need to run free. 2. Regular - daily walk or two but more than just out
to the street and back. 3. Minimal - not a lot of exercise is required, but
some is needed; Cats= 1. Calm 2. Energetic 3. Excitable)

57. Example of an ideal customer use case scenario - Visible Results Plan
scenario
Elizabeth Danielle Porter (EDP) owns a 3 year old
Labrador Retriever named Eddie. Elizabeth has noticed
that Eddie seems to be putting on a little extra weight
and generally seems to be less healthy than he could be.
Elizabeth also has a six year old American Shorthair cat
named Ethel who seems a bit under weight these days,
and has terrible hairball issues.
awareness
Elizabeth explores PurinaOne.com, looking at product information and pet care
content. She decides to use the Visible Results Plan which generates a plan of action for Eddie. She likes the suggestions, encouragement and ideas on how to help
Eddie reach his ideal health for his breed, age, etc. She saves the plan and enters
into the 30 Day Challenge....

Elizabeth receives a congrats email and is encouraged to explore the

on the Pictures of Health Map. She sees a cat success story about
improvements with “Hair ball” issues. She considers feeding Ethel

Ethel as well.
